The ark contains the sacred scrolls of the Torah. The flame represents the menorah in the Temple, and therefore is never extinguished. In fact, the word tabernacle itself is derived from Hebrew, as taber is the Hebrew word for tent, and hearkens back to the forty years of wandering in the desert. The pilgrim people were sustained in hope by an awareness that God was not only in the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night, but had quite literally pitched his tent with them in the shelter for the Ark of the Covenant. Some artisans have used this theme of ark or tent to design a tabernacle for the Blessed Sacrament. In Christian practice, Anglicans and Catholics use a sanctuary lamp to point toward the presence of the reserved sacrament, and Lutherans use it as a sign of God s presence in the house of worship, but not necessarily as a clue that the Eucharist is reserved. Why, even in an age of electric light, is the sanctuary lamp an oil light or candle? Perhaps not only to point to Christ, the light of the world, but also to point to sacrifice. For the light to exist, there must be sacrifice. The oil or wax is transformed into light, just as those who pray here, or who will receive viaticum from here, are called to transformation in Christ. Adoration will begin after mass with benediction at 12:00pm (noon). Refreshments will follow in Marian Hall. Community Alliance Church, 111 Division St., Withee Next date of distribution: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. Requiring no proof of income, the food pantry helps those in need by providing approximately one week's worth of food per month. SPIRITUAL ADOPTION - Coming Soon On the Weekend of April 29/30, we will be starting the spiritual adoption program--9 months of daily prayer for a baby in the womb & for his/her family, culminating on pro-life Sunday, the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. Mothers in crisis pregnancies & their babies need all the support they can get. Your prayers are more powerful than you know! Prayer cards can be found on the prolife display at the church RENOVATION PROGRESS REPORT - Keep supporting the church renovation fund with your orange envelopes in your parish envelope box. We have new goals set for after the new roof is on - to work on inside repairs and painting. Saturday, May 20, We will leave St Mary s parking lot at 7:30am and return about 5:30pm. The cost will be $25.00 per person. Lunch will be on your own. There are picnic tables available for you to bring a sack lunch, and they also have a café on the grounds. You can site-see at your leisure, golf carts are available for those who cannot walk the path to the Shrine Church. We have seats available on the bus and would like to invite parishioners from your parishes to travel with us. We need 30 people for the trip. So far only 16 have signed up. They have asked TCS to help support this cause and we are happy to participate!
