3 Pastor s Pen Dear St. Martin of Tours Parishioners and Visitors, Then he told Thomas, Put your finger here, and look at my hands. Take your hand, and put it into my side. Stop doubting, but believe. John 20:27 Christ was fastened with nails to the Cross. His hands and feet were pierced through. After He died yet before His body was taken down from the Cross, His left side was transfixed by a lance. Once He rose from the dead, those five wounds were healed yet in their place were five scars. Though His wounds were healed the scars remained. Why? Jesus chose to keep His scars to heal the wounds of our souls. Many of us indeed most of us are carrying within our souls some very deep wounds: the wounds of sin, unforgiveness, doubt, sadness, the loss of loved ones, the loss of dreams the list can go on and on. Too many are the ways the human soul can be hurt by this callous universe. Those five scars which Our Lord carries in His glorious body are meant for us to be a sign to us of hope and a source of grace: that our wounds will some day be healed. that we will allow Jesus to touch our wounds, to transform the darkness of our crosses of sadness into crowns of victory. that what we feel today as poison we will experience one day as the medicine for our cure. There is no suffering granted to us by God which is not for our own personal transformation. To begin to be healed means to believe in the power of Jesus Resurrection to save and to heal, not just humanity in the abstract, but you. Touch your wounds to the five scars of Christ. Touch your wounded heard most especially to that fifth scar, the one which circumscribes Jesus Most Sacred Heart. That Heart which was once torn in two today beats the Precious Blood which can heal and soothe the most troubled of hearts. There is great power and safety and security in the chambers of Jesus Most Sacred Heart. Come to me, all you who find life wearisome, whose hearts have been wounded with grief, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle! And My Sacred Heart is humble, and in my Heart you will find the rest and healing for your souls for which you have so long desired. Happy Easter to All. In Christ, Pastor Rev. Carlson Dear Faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, During this Lenten season, we seek to strengthen our relationship with God through prayer and sacrifice, and it is in that light that I write to you today. The annual Archbishop s Collection for Retired Priests will be taking place on Easter Sunday. This collection serves to provide support and care for the priests who have sacrificed so much for our parishes and communities. The Archbishop s Collection for Retired Priests is an opportunity to give back to those who give so much. Through spiritual milestones and decades of service, our priests are there when you, your family and your fellow parishioners count on them. But in retirement, it will be the priests who count on you for prayers and support so that they can continue to serve in the name of God. Your individual contributions help meet the needs of our priests during this period of aging and disability. For the continued prosperity of our parishes and our archdiocese, it is essential that we support our priests and provide them with the peace of mind that they will be cared for in retirement. With our support, they can continue to give the entirety of their effort towards serving you, your loved ones, and your faith. 5 NO BINGO EASTER SUNDAY Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers! We are pleased to announce that the Scholarship Grant Program at St. Martin of Tours will be continued into the school year. Applications may be downloaded online at stmartinoftours.com The Women's Club Potluck Breakfast Our Potluck Breakfast will be Sunday April 28th after 10:00 a.m. Mass in the lower level. All women are invited and are encouraging anyone who attends to bring their daughters, aunts, cousins, mother, grandmothers, friends or neighbors. There is NO CHARGE and all we ask is you bring a dish to share. The officers will provide the coffee, orange juice, mimosas and possibly some other beverages. We are looking forward to sharing a great meal and time with our church community. Addi Lu's Boutique (parishioner owned) will be there with some crafts and merchandise to order or purchase. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY Next Sunday, April 28, is Divine Mercy Sunday. We will be concluding the Divine Mercy Novena with the chanting of the Chaplet at 3:00 p.m. Confessions will also be available from 2:00 3:00 p.m. (with three confessors). All are invited!
