The candidate should register for her/his Quince Años ceremony on or before her/his 14 th birthday. The candidate must have been baptized in the Roman Catholic Church and must have received First Eucharist prior to the time of the ceremony. If the honoree has not received the Sacrament of Communion, she/he should be enrolled to prepare to receive the sacrament before the Quince Años ceremony. 3 Dear Friends in St. Dominic This week-end, July 11 th & 12 th we shall have our commitment weekend for our 2 nd capital campaign. We need to secure $1 million more in pledges to enable us to move forward with our plans for a new Parish Life Center. There is never a perfect time to run a capital campaign, but with the projected growth of our community over the next decade, we need to progress as a parish as well. By providing more parking and a new Parish life center, we will be better suited to serve our growing community and parish. In this regard, we are asking the entire parish family to participate in stewardship that will benefit St. Dominic church. Everyone in our parish will be asked to consider a financial gift. I would also like to ask everyone pray for the success of this effort. Pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit and for the courage to follow the Lord s plan for us. This week-end, we shall also take up a 2 nd collection for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or the black bag collection. These funds play a crucial role in our ability to fund all of our programs that feed, clothe, provide dignified living, and help people find their way to self-sufficiency. Your support during the Black Bag allows the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to support our 60 Conferences who serve in nearly 60% of the Archdiocesan geographic area. It allows us to supply our 1,800 Vincentian Volunteers with a guiding hand, material, spiritual and financial support and so much more. Thank you for blessing the poor by participating in our Black Bag Collection. It truly is an answer to a prayer from someone in need. In the gospel, Jesus reminds us that trust and perseverance are the key characteristics for every Christian. Every Christian shares in Christ's mission. When we were baptized, we became members of his body, that same body that reaches out to men and women in every age in order to lead them to God. That is the mission Jesus gave his apostles in the Gospel: he sent them to reach out to others with Christ's good news of salvation. In fact, the very word apostle comes from the Greek word meaning: to be sent. Every Christian shares in this apostolate. Every Christian is sent out to bear witness to Christ, to bring his wisdom and his healing touch to those who are in need, spiritually and physically. Under the supervision of our bishops (the successors to these first Twelve Apostles), we are all called to spread the Kingdom, to be agents of evangelization. Therefore, the missionary instructions that Christ gives to his first followers apply, in analogous ways, to all his followers, including you and I. These instructions can be summed up in two words: trust and perseverance. Besides the clothes on their backs, the Apostles are only supposed to bring a walking stick and their sandals. Every need they have along the way will be met, but it will be met by God's providence, not by their own self-sufficiency: they are to trust in God to sustain their efforts. The walking stick and the sandals symbolize a determination to continue moving forward, to persevere in their efforts to fulfill God's will. They must not give up. Even when they face opposition, persecution, and a cold welcome (which they will - Christ leaves no room for doubt about that), they are not to be deterred; they are to persevere. Trust and perseverance - two key qualities of the Christian missionary (and we are all Christian missionaries, in one way or another) whose relevance will never run out. 4 Queridos amigos en St. Dominic Este fin de semana, Julio 11 y 12 es nuestro fin de semana de compromiso para nuestra segunda campaña capital. Tenemos que asegurar $ 1 millón más en promesas para que podamos seguir adelante con nuestros planes para un nuevo Centro de Vida Parroquial. Nunca hay un momento perfecto para realizar una campaña capital, pero con el crecimiento proyectado de nuestra comunidad en la próxima década, necesitamos progresar como parroquia también. En el Evangelio, Jesús nos recuerda que la confianza y la perseverancia son las características y clave de cada Cristiano. Cada cristiano participa en la misión de Cristo. Cuando fuimos bautizados, nos convertimos en miembros de su cuerpo, ese mismo cuerpo que tiende la mano a los hombres y mujeres de todas las edades con el fin de llevarlos a Dios. Esa es la misión que Jesús dio a sus apóstoles en el Evangelio: los envió a alcanzar a otros con una buena noticia de la salvación de Cristo. De hecho, la misma palabra apóstol viene de la palabra griega que significa: para ser enviado. Cada cristiano participa en este apostolado. Cada cristiano es enviado a dar testimonio de Cristo, para que su sabiduría y su toque de curación a aquellos que están en necesidad, espiritual y físicamente. Bajo la supervisión de nuestros obispos (los sucesores de estos primeros doce apóstoles), todos estamos llamados a difundir el Reino, a ser agentes de evangelización. Por lo tanto, las instrucciones misioneras que Cristo da a sus primeros seguidores se aplican, de manera análoga, a todos sus seguidores, incluidos usted y yo Estas instrucciones se pueden resumir en dos palabras: confianza y perseverancia. Además de la ropa que llevaban puesta, los apóstoles solamente se supone que traer un bastón y sus sandalias.
