Mary has resided in Indiana since Gospel Summary As much as Jesus listeners didn t understand how Jesus could really mean that they were to eat his body and drink his blood, Jesus made it very clear that that was precisely what he did mean. Once again, it was hard for the people of Jesus day (and still hard for us today, too) to understand what Jesus tried to say because they only thought in earthly, literal terms. This gospel passage gives us one of our firm foundations for the institution of the Eucharist so that, in faith, we will eat the bread that will give us everlasting life. Reflection for Families Many times we prepare our children for the big events in their lives forgetting how much of life takes place in the ordinary moments. For example, first communion is often a big production either at the hands of the parish or how families choose to dress their children and celebrate after mass. The really important message of this gospel reading, however, is how joyful and thankful are we when we receive our one hundredth or one thousandth communion. Our goal might be to help our children continue to be thankful and joyful each time they share in communion. This can happen when they see how happy we are to receive communion ourselves. Envelopes are not included in the regular mailing PREP Registration (Parish Religious Education Program) This program offers an educational opportunity as well as experiences of community, service and worship. Preparation for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation is the focus of the second and sixth grade curriculum. Our volunteer teachers strive to encourage your child to take steps closer to God. The purpose of the program is to aid parents in their primary role as catechists by providing a welcoming faith-based learning environment for young Catholics. Classes will begin on Tuesday, September 29TH and be held every Tuesday evening from 6:15 to 7:30PM for Kindergarten through Grade 6. Tuition fee is $35.00 per student to cover the cost of books. Call the rectory at to receive a registration form. New students must request and bring an updated baptismal certificate from the church where they were baptized. Besides our wonderful teachers, Diane Craig, Theresa Walsh, Michelle Hartel & Terri Power, Sister Louise Quinn, O.S.F. is overseeing this program. RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process we use to add members to our faith community. Do you know someone who is thinking of becoming Catholic or, at least, wants to know more about our religion? Maybe you know someone who was baptized in the Faith, but was never educated in the faith nor received First Communion or Confirmation. The RCIA is a journey of faith, spread over several months, that the Church uses to bring these people into the Catholic faith. 4 World Meeting of Families NEEDED: Ushers, Adorers and Greeters The World Meeting of Families needs volunteers to serve as ushers and greeters for the WMOF Congress Masses & Confessions (Sept 22-25) and the Papal Mass on Sunday, Sept 27 on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Also, adorers are needed to pray before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament during WMOF Week in two locations, the Convention Center Rm 108 & the Cathedral. Learn more and sign up as an usher, adorer or greeter on this page: WMOF FILM FESTIVAL The World Meeting of Families - Philadelphia 2015 and Greater Philadelphia Film Office (GPFO) recently announced the World Meeting of Families Film Festival. The festival will open Tuesday, September 22 and close on the evening of Friday, September 25, 2015, just before Pope Francis' arrival in Philadelphia. Curated by the GPFO and presented by Beneficial Bank, the Film Festival will be held at The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, adding to the many cultural and family-friendly events being planned across the Philadelphia region for the week. Host Families Needed For TWO international students from China who would like to attend Cardinal O Hara HS for the upcoming year. These F-1 visa students speak English, have medical insurance and their own pocket money for personal expenses. Host families provide room & board & receive a generous monthly stipend. Afternoon of Prayer The Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia are sponsoring an Afternoon of Prayer on Sunday, September 13, 2015 in celebration of the Year of Consecrated Life, declared by Pope Francis. The theme of this special year is Wake Up the World. The prayer begins at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Our Lady of Angels Convent, 609 S. Convent Road, Aston, Pennsylvania (near Neumann University). The afternoon will include Midday Prayer, a reflection by one of the sisters, an hour of quiet Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and Benediction. The Shrine is hosting a talk given by author and speaker, Dr. Scott Hahn, on Sept. 24, 2015, at 7 pm. His talk is Holy Mary, Holy Family: Bringing Our Lady into our Homes.
