We continue our lessons in the faith, as our practices of Lent become deeper and more full of grace. We enter into this week reflecting upon the Scrutiny that makes up our intense prayer for those Elect, preparing for Baptism. And, as we beg, as Church, that they be freed from sin and from all anxiety, we ask those same desires for ourselves. The simple and powerful words of the Opening Prayer guides our daily prayer. We continue to wake each morning, pausing to ask for the graces we desire for the day. Throughout each day, the background of our thoughts and feelings is more and more taken up with what this journey means for our personal change of heart, the renewal of our Baptismal commitment to be placed with Jesus, and our growing desire to act in solidarity with the poor. 3 During this Lent of 2018 try some food for thought for Lent: Are you as bothered by or struggling with the bad language and suggestive talk on television programs, movies and even the new shows? If you are be refreshed, inspired and guided by God s Word. Consider reflecting on this passage from the Letter to the Ephesians 5: 1-5 Fast and Abstinence The Bishops of the US prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are 14 years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on all the Fridays of Lent and Good Friday. Further, all persons 18 years of age and older, up to and including their 59th birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other two meals on those days are to be light. Be sure of this, that no immoral or impure or greedy person, that is, an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Pray for the grace to imitate God as His beloved son or daughter in the way you think, speak and act! BLESSED VIRGIN MARY PARISH'S (1101 MAIN ST., DARBY, PA) Community education program will present a six week - six part program: Personal Finance, preparing for your family's financial future. The classes will be presented free to the public by parishioners Harriet Sarblee, a professional in the financial services industry & Harold Finigan, a retired Philadelphia School District teacher & lifelong private investor. All programs are free and will be held Sundays from 12:30 till 2:00pm in the BVM Old School Hall, March 11 th - April 22 nd. WEEK #1 (MARCH 11 th ) will discuss the relationship between education, employment and earning power.
