It comes from the first word of the Entrance antiphon on Sunday. The spirit of joy that begins this week comes from the words of Paul, "The Lord is near." This joyful spirit is marked by the third candle of our Advent wreath, which is rose colored, and the rose colored vestments often used at the Eucharist. We prepare this week by feeling the joy. We move through this week feeling a part of the waiting world that rejoices because our longing has prepared us to believe the reign of God is close at hand. And so we consciously ask: Prepare our hearts and remove the sadness that hinders us from feeling the joy and hope which his presence will bestow. Concert at The Cathedral Basilica The Same Stream Choir and founding artistic director James Jordan are no strangers to the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, having performed and recorded during the summer months. We welcome them to Concerts at the Cathedral Basilica for the first time during the winter concert season in a rich and varied program of works by prominent living choral composers. Music by Thomas LaVoy, Paul Mealor, Dan Forrest, Cortlandt Matthews, and many others form a journey through some of the most powerful and affecting music for voices being composed today. The Same Stream Choir is made up of all stripes of music practitioners, from professional singers and teachers to composers, vocal coaches, and conductors, all emerging from their shared passion for singing and their shared experience of the Westminster Choir College. The ensemble champions the music of composers from within that shared experience and also reaches into choral literature covering a broad spectrum of musical styles and choral colors. Christ's words are clear, sublime and disconcerting: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." To have God as our model is a dizzying thought! Yet the Church reminds us that, "All the faithful, whatever their condition or state in life, are called by the Lord to that perfect holiness." The Church teaches us that holiness is not the concern of a privileged few, nor does it only pertain to Christians of the past. The saints are our models and teachers in the ways of holiness. They show us that holiness is possible for us, since they experienced the same difficulties and weaknesses we do, yet persevered in achieving sanctity. The world of saints is a world of wonders, and in this book Pope Benedict XVI helps us to enter into that world. This inspiring audiobook presents the Pope's numerous reflections on many saints arranged according to the calendar year. He shows how the life of each saint has something unique to teach us about virtue, faith, courage and love of Christ. Dozens of saints are covered in this wonderful spiritual book. Everyone enjoyed the Christmas shop, the raffle tables, baked goods & pierogi sales. The food was delicious and everyone was so excited to spend time with Santa. Cold & Flu Season Ministers of Holy Communion should wash their hands before Mass begins, or even use alcohol anti-bacterial solution in the pew before distributing, and after purifying their fingers after the distribution of Holy Communion. People feeling ill should avoid receiving Communion from the chalice. If extremely ill staying home would be in order not to spread sickness, especially to our seniors. At the Sign of Peace refrain from shaking hands as a nod to the person next to you is always just as good as a handshake
