Classes began September 11 th and will continue on Mondays through Easter until Pentecost. ST. CHARLES HOLY NAME SOCIETY WELCOMES DEACON DANIEL GALLA Addressing: Jewish Impact on Catholicism Thursday October 19 th 7:30pm St. Charles Parish Activities Center: John Paul II Room, 2nd Floor, 6818 Charles Ave Doors open at 7:15pm. Meeting is free and open to the Public with complimentary Beverages, Chips, Pretzels and various Pastries. In the past, Deacon Dan has addressed: "How to Increase Your Faith," "What is the Origin of the Bible," "Catholics and the Jewish People," "Voting with a Well-Formed Conscience," "The Importance of Baptism in Daily Life," "What Pope Francis is Saying and Not Saying," "The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic." Our Deacon, 13 years into his Deaconate, is a Teacher of Theology at St. Ignatius, does an in-depth preparation for these timely presentations and would welcome your attendance. The Holy Name Society began in 1274 by Blessed John Vercelli at the request of Pope Gregory X and the Council of Lyons. Join HNS and receive the many Indulgences afforded by honoring the sacred name of Jesus. Fred Hollman, President, St. Charles HNS, Our parish custom, for the last thirty years, has been to publish a complete financial report on the weekend after Labor Day. That report, covering the period July through June , was included in last week s bulletin. In the cover letter to that report, I mentioned that your comments or questions would be most welcome. I did receive a few requests asking that I add some history and detail to the paragraph concerning our Education Foundation. When I became pastor of St Charles in 1987, it was clear to me that there should be some long-range planning and preparation to guarantee the financial future of our parish school. Our starting salary for a teacher back then was $16,000; with such a low salary, a teacher also qualified for food stamps. In 1987, personal computers were in their infancy, but they were clearly the wave of the future. If our school was to keep up we would have to make technology a top priority. In 1988, I asked some talented and knowledgeable parishioners for their help. We established the St Charles Borromeo School Endowment. All extra parish funds, special gifts, and bequests went to the Endowment. I mentioned the Endowment in the bulletin, from time-to-time, but there was never any high pressure nor a formal campaign. In the early years, Endowment funds were professionally managed by National City Bank and Ameritrust. We did very well during the 1990 s. We particularly benefitted from bequests. Several families established scholarships that aided needy children. After ten years time, in 1998, we started to use a portion of the interest earned to meet school expenses. The earnings helped to keep our tuition among the lowest in the Diocese. In 2006, we sought advice to keep the Endowment strictly under the control of St Charles Borromeo Parish. The proper legal steps were taken to create the St Charles Borromeo Education Foundation. The assets of the former Endowment were transferred to the Foundation. The Foundation board meets quarterly and consists of the pastor, principal, and three knowledgeable parishioners. All funds are professionally managed by PNC Bank, Chase Bank, Raymond James Investments, and Ameritrade. The Foundation is legally recognized by the federal and state governments as a non-profit I.R.S. 501 C-3 charitable entity. For , from interest earnings, the Foundation will provide $260,000 to our school budget; without the Foundation, our tuition would be substantially higher. A St Charles teacher s starting salary is now $35,000 and we are able to provide proper benefits for our school employees. St Charles Parish is also blessed to have the Youth Group Trust; interest earnings from the Youth Trust underwrite spiritual and educational programs for St Charles teens. Interest from our St Charles Borromeo Vocation Scholarships helps with the expenses of those parishioners pursuing a religious or priestly vocation. Our Sanctuary Memorial Fund provides permanent items for our worship needs. I hope all of the above information is helpful. When making your will, at the time of death, or when considering charitable or memorial donations, please remember our St Charles Education Foundation, Youth Group Trust, Vocation Scholarships, and Sanctuary Memorial Fund. Those who came before us have been so very generous and we have benefitted from their generosity. Now it is our turn to care for those who will come after us!

There were over 2,000 simultaneous rallies held the first year and have increased steadily to over 16,000 last year. This year, the goal is 20,000 rallies that will all begin at 12:00 noon. Our nation is in great need of public prayer, repentance and conversion. In this historic year of the Fatima Centennial ( ), we ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother. At the end of World War II, Communist Soviet troops occupied Vienna, Austria. They refused to leave. After massive public Rosary processions, the Communist invaders packed up and left. Large-scale public rosaries were likewise credited for foiling a Communist takeover in Brazil in If the rosary saved these countries, it can save America. PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYING FOR OUR NATION ON OCTOBER 14, 2017 AT 12:00 NOON. Two Rallies will be taking place in Parma: IN FRONT OF ST. COLUMBKILLE CHURCH, 6740 Broadview Road.
