3 St. Charles Borromeo Church July 24, 2016 WORLD YOUTH DAY 2016 Krakớw, Poland, HERE WE COME! BUONGIORNO! (That s Good Morning / Day in Italian) After 3 years of planning, 19 St. Charles World Youth Day Pilgrims flew out of Hopkins Airport at 12:27pm on Thursday, July 21 st and arrived in Rome on Friday morning. This weekend we are remembering your intentions in Assisi, the home of St. Francis & St. Clare. Before leaving Rome, we will be visiting the Catacombs of St. Sebastian. After Assisi, we will return to Rome and remember you in our prayers as we visit the major basilicas. On Tuesday, we depart for Krakow where we will tour this beautiful city of St. John Paul II and begin our World Youth Day activities with our Holy Father, Pope Francis. Please continue to pray for all of us pilgrims that we may experience the love of Jesus Christ through the people we will meet, the places we will visit, and the events we will experience. St Malachi Parish has long sponsored a ministry to the homeless in the Angle district of Cleveland at West 25 th and Detroit. In addition to the meals and clothing St Malachi provides daily, they also offer showers for those who live on the streets. St Malachi tells us that they could use bars of soap. If you have an extra bar or two of soap, regular size or even the small bars of soap offered by hotels and motels, please bring them to church, over the next few weeks, and leave them in the Soap Boxes in the church lobbies. Help My Least Brothers and Sisters! GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for the Parish. This book will be the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of our parish. The book is being provided at no cost to our Church, including the mailing to each family, and again is being subsidized by local businesses that advertise in it. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the Parish Office (440) Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It "will pay" to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory. Summer Carnival 2016 concluded last Sunday. It looks like we took in about $272,000. We estimate overall expenses to be around $160,000. So that means our profit this year should be $110,000! Fantastic! Thank you to all!. He was a great favorite with our parishioners. James was ordained a priest in May and his first priestly assignment is at Mary, Queen of Apostles Parish (formerly St Peter the Apostle Parish) in Brook Park. I have asked the newly-ordained Father Kulway to join us for Mass this weekend. Father James Kulway will be the celebrant and homilist at our 12:00Noon Mass. Annually, each parish in our Diocese is assigned a missionary for one weekend. That missionary shares with us the story of his work and calls upon our generosity to help with the work of spreading the Gospel. When our nation was young, those in the Old World shared their resources with us to establish the Church in the United States. In fact, our country was considered mission territory until Now it is our turn to help others. Father Greg Schmitt CSsR will join us next weekend and he will preach at our Masses and ask us for our help. Father Schmitt is a Redemptorist priest. His religious order staffs missions in Nigeria and Brazil. There will be a second collection at Mass next weekend for the work of the Redemptorist missionaries. Yes, I know next Sunday is also a Fifth Sunday and we traditionally sponsor a second collection for our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society. Please place your SVdeP envelope in the regular offertory (first collection). Our counters will separate the SVdeP donations and account for them. Gotta Bar of Soap? St Malachi Parish in Cleveland cares for the homeless and offers showers for those who live on the street. St Malachi s could use bars of soap, large or small. Please leave them in the Soap Boxes found in our church lobbies during the next few weeks. The Charles Avenue parking lot was totally resurfaced in After twenty-seven years of kids, plowing, salt, cars, Carnivals, and freeze/thaw, some areas have crumbled. To combat the problem, we will replace the entrance drive, at the east end, with concrete (similar to the concrete drive at the west end.) The central parts of the lot will be patched with asphalt. We will also add a greenspace next to the New School Building (in the area of the existing bike racks). Carnival 2016 and our Rainy Day Fund will pick up the tab. Work should start soon. When it does, the east entrance/exit (near the Activities Center) of the Charles Avenue lot will be out of commission for a few days. We apologize for any inconvenience. But this will be a definite and long-lasting--improvement for our parish facilities.

Anselm at anselm@cbhs.edu or text/call him at RETROUVAILLE WEEKEND September 9 11, 2016 Retrouvaille is a three-month program to help couples struggling in their marriages. It has three phases, starting with a weekend experience in which couples learn to re-establish communication and to gain new insights into themselves as individuals and as a couple. Post sessions are held over a period of 12 weeks to further develop and enhance the techniques learned on the weekend. A support group is available offering interaction with other couples who are striving to improve their relationship. The next weekend is scheduled for September 9-11, 2016 at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, Beachwood, Ohio.
