As previously announced, Willie has been assigned to St. John s for the summer pastoral internship, which officially begins next weekend; he s with us today to introduce himself. Willie has spent most of his life in New York City, so please offer him a warm welcome to upstate New York! For the first time in recent memory, the students of St. John School will be presenting a full-length play. The Little Mermaid will premiere this Friday, May 12 at 7:00pm in McCaffrey Hall; there will be a second performance on Saturday, May 13 at the same time. Tickets will be available at the door. The students have been working for many months on this production, so I encourage you to come and witness the fruits of their labors. This year s play is dedicated to Mrs. Sophia Bayno, who for many years directed the school choir Training for new altar servers will begin this week; please see page 5 of the bulletin for details. We very strongly encourage boys and girls in grades 3 through 12 to consider taking part in this very important service to the Lord and the Church Page 6 contains the weekly update of happenings at St. John School. This week s edition profiles some of the great things taking place at the pre-kindergarten program, which is located at the end of St. John Street. A friend who works in the area of academic support services for the Goshen Central School District recently visited the pre-k to evaluate a student. She happened to be there as Mrs. Casse and Mrs. Dwyer were reviewing the story of Easter with the students. Rather than simply reading from a book, however, they used colored eggs. (I saw it myself as well; it s one of the most brilliant teaching tools I ve ever seen.) My friend told me afterward that she was enthralled by the presentation, and that if her own daughter were a small child, there s no doubt where she would be going to pre-k. Additionally, there is an open house this week for the Kindergarten, which is located in the big school. The energy, enthusiasm, and solid formation in the faith that s happening down the hill are carried over into that classroom.
