3 The Christmas decora ons have returned to storage for another year as the Church calendar now returns to Ordinary Time. As we look back, we are grateful to all those who worked so very hard to make the Christmas season such a joyous and fes ve one. From those who clean the church, to those who decorate it, to those involved in music ministry, to all of our liturgical ministers, to the liturgy planning team, and to all those who assist in any way, a hear elt thanks for sharing your God given gi s and talents. Through your efforts, you have so wonderfully enhanced our Christmas celebra ons. On a personal level, I join Father Chris, Deacon Gary, Deacon Cliff and Deacon Ming in expressing a sincere thank-you to all those who sent though ul prayers, gi s, cards, le ers, and goodies to us. Your overwhelming generosity has touched our hearts in a special way. May the Lord con nue to bless you abundantly throughout the New Year for your kindness and generosity. As far as the goodies go, you ll be seeing a lot more of us in the near future (if you know what I mean!). New Year Blessings! In Christ s Love, Father Bob To Each Individual the Manifesta on of the Spirit Is Given for Some Benefit Last weekend, as we celebrated the Bap sm of Jesus in the Jordan River, we also had an opportunity to reflect on our own Bap sm. Through Bap sm we are washed clean of Original Sin and enter into the life of grace through the gi of the Holy Spirit. And it doesn t end there! In Confirma on we receive the fullness of God s Spirit and are sent forth into the world as instruments of his life and love. Yet, while we are united in the Spirit of God as his children, we are not robots who all speak the same words or who do iden cal deeds in God s name. Instead, as Saint Paul reminds us in today s second reading, each one of us shared uniquely in the gi s of the Spirit so that we might fulfill God s unique will for us. The journey of our life of faith must then include discerning the gi s that God has given us and how he wants us to use them. This is an important part of the On Mission for The Church Alive! ini a ve. If each one of us has been endowed with spiritual gi s in what ways can we use them to enliven the Church? Spend a few moments in prayer this week and ask the Lord to help you know the gi s the Spirit has bestowed upon you and how you are being called to share them. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed High School Silent Retreat Have you ever allowed God to speak to you through silence? Take a few moments to reflect on the homily excerpt below from Saint John Chrysostom wri en in approximately 400 AD. Paul, more than anyone else, has shown us what man really is, and in what our nobility consists, and of what virtue this par cular animal is capable. Each day he aimed ever higher; each day he rose up with greater ardor and faced with new eagerness the dangers that threatened him. He summed up his a tude in the words: I forget what is behind me and push on to what lies ahead. When he saw death imminent, he bade others share his joy: Rejoice and be glad with me! And when danger, injus ce and abuse threatened, he said: I am content with weakness, mistreatment and persecu on. These he called the weapons of righteousness, thus telling us that he derived immense profit from them. So too, in being loved by Christ he thought of himself as possessing life, the world, the angels, present and future, the kingdom, the promise and countless blessings. Apart from that love nothing saddened or delighted him; for nothing earthly did he regard as bi er or sweet. Paul set no store by the things that fill our visible world, any more than a man sets value on the withered grass of the field. As for tyrannical rulers or the people enraged against him, he paid them no more heed than gnats. Death itself and pain and whatever torments might come were but child s play to him, provided that thereby he might bear some burden for the sake of Christ. Need Help With Pressure In Your Life? Are you feeling pressure right now? Is it affec ng your health, your a tude or your rela onships? Would you like to have someone to talk to, to help you and offer Chris an support? Our Stephen Ministers can help in a prayerful, confiden al way. For more informa on about Stephen Ministry, contact Mary Jordan at the parish office. Prayer Is A Weapon - Eucharis c Adora on Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God's heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart. ~Padre Pio Come and pray each week in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament on Fridays from Noon un l 9 PM where you can arm yourself for life s journey of challenges and joys. You will be blessed in abundance by the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

MUSIC MINISTRY Today we enter back into Ordinary Time, and in the Gospel passage from John, we hear about the Wedding at Cana. We do not hear about the couple that is ge ng married, but we are focused on the miracle that Jesus performs, changing the water into wine. Last week John the Bap st announced one migh er than I will come and today Jesus begins his public ministry by the great miracle at Cana. Jesus reveals his own iden ty and the nature of the Kingdom of God. From this first sign in Cana we get a glimpse that the kingdom is like a wedding feast and the wine that was overflowing is like God s love for us never ending. Our Hymns today focus not only on the wedding feast at Cana, but also on our rela onship to God and each other. May this Winter-Ordinary me of the year help us to focus our a en on on our rela onships with each other and our God. God Bless!
