5 ANNOUNCEMENTS -Our Byzantine Catholic cycle of prayer possesses two distinct aspects: Eucharist and the sanctification of time. Join us for an evening conversation with Very Reverend Archpriest David M. Petras, as he explains the importance of praying individually and as a community the Divine Office of our Church. All are welcome. Friday, December 16, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Church Hall. Light refreshments will be provided. A big thank you for all the Fish Fry helpers last month. Work went smoothly and diners seemed pleased. We served 85 dinners which was a good turn-out for not having one in over six months. Our next fish fry is Dec. 2.We are expecting an increase in patrons especially with the wonderful live Nativity presented by Sr. Jean Marie and the young members of our faith community. We need your help for the fish fry. Please sign up (sheet in back of Church). The success of this fundraiser depends on all of us. If you have questions or need info on helping please contact Dolores at Baked goods preorders are still being accepted and will be until Sunday, Nov 27. Forms are located in hall. We are trying to have an accurate inventory and accounting of income and expenses with our fundraisers. You may not be aware, but the bottled water, soda and beer and wine are part of our fundraisers and are not free. If you have gotten bottled water or soda please pay $1.00 per can, beer $3.00, you may leave the money in an envelope. Please refrain from taking in the future as is makes it difficult to have an accurate inventory. This goes for all items in fridge/pantry/storage. In addition, Dolores needs help. After the November fish fry, there was a box with several bags of fish in fridge in the kitchen. On Sunday, she could only find the empty box, perhaps, the bags of fish were misplaced. Does anyone know or has seen what has happened to the bags of fish? It is $25 worth of fish. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. St. Nicholas Feast Day Dinner, Sunday, December 4, 2016 after the 10 AM Liturgy, sponsored by GCU with matching funds to benefit the Cathedral needs list. We are now accepting donations for our upcoming St. Nick s silent auction. Letters for sponsors are on the entry table. Suggested items: sporting event tickets, museum tickets, restaurant gift cards, gift baskets, & Tricky Tray items for kids and teens to bid on.

6 THANKSGIVING CHARITY- This Thanksgiving, St. Stephen Cathedral is sponsoring two families with a Thanksgiving Dinner catered by AJ s. The cost per family is $ for the dinner only. In addition, we want to give them grocery gift cards, bibles, an Uber ride to church and an icon. This totals $ Please let us spread God s love through your donation. We will delivering everything the day before Thanksgiving. All are welcome to join us. You are encouraged to donate for the Thanksgiving Charity. LIVE NATIVITY- We need St. Joseph, the Shepherds and Kings!!! Children and Teens are needed!!! There is still time for you and your parents to sign up. The date is Friday, Dec. 2nd from 6pm to 7:30pm. Can you give 20 minutes of your time? The local choirs thus far who will be participating are from Brophy and Notre Dame High Schools & Bell Ringers from Bourgade High School. CALLING ALL YOUNG ADULTS (18-30) On Sunday, Nov. 27th, lets gather together in the back of the hall for coffee after the 10am Divine Liturgy. Let s talk about the ways that we can prepare our hearts for a joy-filled Christmas! PLANNING AHEAD- Our Parish will be 50 years young in June, God surely has blessed St. Stephen s. That we can spiritually prepare for such an awesome celebration, a Committee of 6-7 Parishioners, whose responsibility consists of coordinating the initial planning for our 50th Jubilee is being formed. Please speak with Fr. Diodoro if you feel called to this ministry. Let s make our Jubilee year one of Renewal and Revitalization.

7 Filipovka-Philip s Fast--- Week 2 Platytera Icon - Our Lady of the Sign, feast day on Nov. 27. The Sign Icon has two different connotations. One is from the old Roman imperial court. It was the custom that those who served in the palace in the imperial household wore an emblem of the emperor on their outermost robe. Thus, Our Lady serves God the Word in a unique way as the God-Bearer (Theotokos) and she therefore has the emblem of the Christ Child, our true King, on her robe. However, the more obvious way is in her role as the Mother - Jesus is shown inside her virginal womb, as a small Man (to show His Divine Nature is present from conception) and holding a rolled up scroll in His left hand, to show that He is the Word "through Whom all things were made." He blesses with His right hand. The sacred letters of His Name, IC XC, Jesus Christ, tell us Who He is and His role as the Messiah (Christos). In His halo is the abbreviation for "He Is Who Is", or "I AM WHO AM", the Name which God gives to Himself at the Bush that would not burn on Mt. Sinai, in answer to Moses' question. Our Lady is standing, with her hands raised up, in the orans position. This is how the early Christians prayed, especially when facing East, to show their readiness to accept the Second Coming of the Lord. She is usually found in this style on the apse wall, immediately behind the holy altar. Thus, above the tabernacle in which Our Lord is present in the Most Holy Eucharist, Mary rises above it as the original tabernacle of God. Mary is the only human person who can be show in the colors of blue (humanity) and red (divinity) because of her unique status as Theotokos. Her robes are usually marked by three stars: on her right and left shoulders, and above her face. These proclaim that she is ever-virgin: before, during and after the Incarnation of Christ. Thus, no human being was involved in conceiving Jesus on March 25, and no other children were ever carried in her womb, which had contained the Most High God. As the living Ark of the Covenant, Saint Joseph would never have considered having intimate relations with her, and like her, he remains virginal and celibate. In the Kursk version of the icon, Our Lady and Jesus are surrounded by Old Testament prophets who foretold the virginal conception or the coming of the Messiah. Going clockwise from the top right, they are: King Solomon, Prophets Daniel, Jeremiah, Elijah, Habakkuk, Judge Gideon, Prophets Isaiah, Moses, and King David.
