Sacrament of Baptism for Infants: Please call the Faith Formation Office to schedule Baptism and to register for the Baptism Preparation session held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Parents must attend prior to their child s Baptism. MISSION STATEMENT We the Parish Family of Saint Sebastian, Belle Vernon, serve people in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties. We are Roman Catholics of various ethnic backgrounds with strong family values demonstrating a variety of skills, trades and professions. The purpose of the parish is to glorify God by assisting the community on the Journey of a Lifetime through the Liturgy and Sacraments, teaching and preaching the Word of God, and witnessing to our faith. As a community of faith, we are committed to love of God and neighbor through worshiping together and serving others in caring for their spiritual, emotional and physical needs. Each of us is called to strengthen and reach beyond our parish through being responsible stewards of our time, talent and treasure in the spirit of our patron, St. Sebastian.

It contains the complete weekday and Sunday Catholic Mass and daily meditations for all of Advent. NEW MISSALS Today, the First Sunday of Advent, we will begin using new, permanent hardback missals which contain all three cycles (A, B. & C) of our lectionary readings. This Advent we will begin with cycle C. These missals will replace the paper missalettes and the new hardback missals will now remain in the pews for our use during Mass. They have been purchased for a one-time cost of $10k. Two generous parishioners have come forward to cover the cost ($10,000) of our new hardback missals. Our heartfelt thanks! Stewardship of Treasure November 25, 2018 Angel Tree Project The St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Sebastian Conference, is sponsoring an Angel Tree once again this year. This gift-giving project is for those in serious need this holiday season. Referral forms are inserts in today s bulletin and are to be returned as soon as possible but no later than Saturday, December 8, Oplatki or Oplatek, Christmas Wafers Oplatki wafers are available in the church vestibule for $3.00. Each package contains four separate wafers. Please place your donation in the basket provided, in the collection basket or in the drop-box located in the Parish Center breezeway. SEBASTIAN CHURCH PAGE 2 BELLE VERNON, PENNSYLVANIA Sacrament of First Penance On Tuesday, December 4, at 6:30 p.m. our second grade parishioners will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) for the first time at Epiphany of Our Lord Parish (44 Pennsylvania Ave., Monessen). Parents and siblings of these young people are also invited to partake in this Sacrament. Please keep our young parishioners in your prayers as they prepare to receive this Sacrament for the first time. Lessons and Carols Celebrating the Lord s Coming This ecumenical event features the voices of the Belle Vernon Area Churches sponsored by the Belle Vernon Area Ministerium and presented at Saint Sebastian Church on Sunday, December 16, at 6:30 pm. The Service is composed of nine Lessons (readings) from Scripture, followed by the singing of Advent Hymns or Christmas Carols after each Lesson. Both the Lessons and the Carols reflect the love, peace, and happiness of the Christmas season! Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this festive service. A free will offering will be taken at the close of the program to benefit the community works of the Belle Vernon Ministerium. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall Help Needed Volunteers are needed to help setup and clean-up the Parish Hall on December 16 for the Lessons & Carols reception. Also included will be a reserved parking space. Tickets are $10 and will be available after all Masses and at the Parish Office during regular business hours. The winner will be chosen after the 11:00 a.m. Mass on December 21. Gift Certificates Star Nail & Spa are offering $50 gift certificates for their services: nails, pedicure, and waxing. Reality Tour Getting Real About Drugs The Center for Disease Control reports that prescription drug and heroin abuse is the number one public health problem in the United States. Reality Tour (RT) is a national parent and child drug education and prevention program open to all Mon Valley residents, targeting children ages In this program, held at the Belle Vernon High School, they learn the life and death consequences of a teen on drugs. The next scheduled program is on Monday, December 10, Preregistration is required. Registration deadline for World Youth Day event in Washington, D.C. The Diocese of Greensburg is sponsoring a trip for young adults (ages 18-39) to a one-day Catholic festival at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., January 26, 2019, in conjunction with World Youth Day in Panama. The event will include a livestream of Pope Francis Mass in Panama. Cost, including overnight accommodation, is $160 per person, $95 per person for double occupancy. Visit WYD for information. The registration deadline is January 3, Coaches, Players sought for CYO boys high school basketball league The diocese is looking for coaches and players for a CYO high school boys basketball league. The league is open to Diocese of Greensburg parishioners in grades 9-12 who meet eligibility requirements. The season will run from January through the CYO state tournament in March.
