So please remember that these donations are welcome at any time. Your ongoing support of the Youngwood Food Pantry is always appreciated. Please consider a gift this Christmas to the Children and Family Services Appeal. The second collection will be taken at all Christmas Masses Dec. 24 and 25. YEAR-END CHARITABLE GIVING As the end of the year approaches, there are ways you can make a gift to support your parish and the church and receive a tax benefit, even if you don t itemize deductions. If you are 70 ½ or older and required to take a minimum distribution from your IRA by the end of the year, present law allows use of an IRA charitable rollover without having to pay tax on the withdrawal for gifts to specific charities. COACHES, PLAYERS SOUGHT FOR CYO BOYS HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL LEAGUE The diocese is looking for coaches and players for a CYO high school boys basketball league. The league is open to Diocese of Greensburg parishioners in grades 9-12 who meet eligibility requirements. The season will run from January through the CYO state tournament in March. Games will be played Thursday and Saturday evenings at the Queen of Angels Catholic School gym in North Huntingdon. Contact Jeff Wilkins for details at wikinsjjj@windstream.net. All coaches must comply with diocesan clearance policies. There will be NO choir practices on Dec. 27 or Jan. 3. 5 MORE COMMUNITY & DIOCESAN NEWS My Dear Holy Cross Family, A pastor s job description is to pray for his flock. I pray for all of you daily. Thank you for all you do to make Holy Cross a vibrant parish. Your generosity of time, talent and treasure keep the Kingdom of God breaking into the Youngwood / New Stanton area every day. On behalf of the staff I thank you for your cards, gifts, prayers and well wishes. Please pray for the three kids who will become Catholics this Easter Season. I have a cousin who fell in love with a woman who does not believe in God. I ask that all of you pray for her to be given the gift of faith in our loving Father, Son and Spirit. Pray for more people to join us here and for vocations to the priesthood. Keep me in your toothbrush club. (Pray for me whenever you brush your teeth.) Straub Service Award The Eighth Annual Father Straub Service Award will be presented at a Parish Appreciation Tail Gate Party from 11 AM to 1 PM on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 3, Jeremiah Days vocations discernment events for boys in grades 6-8 The Office for Priestly Vocations is hosting vocations discernment sessions, Jeremiah Days, for boys in grades 6-8 and their parents Feb. 9 and April 13 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Barbara Parish, Harrison City. Melchizedek Project vocations discernment sessions for young men, adults The Melchizedek Project evening for young men to discern a vocation to the priesthood will be held Dec. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the rectory at Holy Family Parish, Latrobe.
