2 Reflec on on the Gospel Do to others as you would have them do to you! Today s Gospel presents us with one of the most difficult mandates: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. The place to start living this challenge is in our own homes and family rela onships. Where there is division, let us strive for reconcilia on. Where there are grudges, let us work toward forgiveness. Pray for the ones from whom we have become permanently estranged. May today s word of God give us the strength to be merciful as God is merciful. In the Gospel, Jesus says to be compassionate as our heavenly Father is compassionate. Where/when have you felt the compassion of God in your life? Dear Parishioners and Friends, To be a Chris an is to go above and beyond the basics. Since we know and hold the light of God in our lives, we are required to do so much more than those who do not know Jesus Christ. We have the grace to be able to do more, but also the responsibility. No ma er how hard it is to pray for someone who has harmed us, we must s ll do so. Such acts so en our hearts and allow grace to fill us. The Gospel today recognizes the challenge, but s ll encourages us to persist. The Scriptures are calling us to consider empathy and engage in dialogue, change, and social jus ce. When we come to a place of understanding, it may also be a place of peace. May God bless each of you and your family with peace. The home provides temporary housing for women and children who find themselves homeless. Presently, there are about twelve families living in the home. Please help us provide cereal, peanut bu er, canned fruits and vegetables, tuna, and other non-perishable food items. Thank you for your support. 3 ASH WEDNESDAY, March 6, 2019 Ash Wednesday, March 6, marks the beginning of the 40 days of Lent by receiving the cross of ashes on our foreheads with the words, Turn from sin and be faithful to the Gospel or remember that you are dust and to dust you will return. We are encouraged during Lent to include prayer, fas ng, and almsgiving in our Lenten prac ces. Ash Wednesday Schedule: St. Monica: Ashes will be distributed at the 8:30 am and the 5:30 pm Masses. St. Thomas the Apostle: Ashes will be distributed at the 8:30 am and 6:00 pm Masses. Eucharis c Minister Volunteers for St. Francis Hospital St. Francis Memorial Hospital is in great need of Eucharis c Minister Volunteers. Are you a cer fied extraordinary Minister of Communion who would find it fulfilling to distribute the Eucharist to Catholic pa ents during their hospitaliza on? Could you donate about one hour of your me per week? It is very meaningful for Catholics to receive the Eucharist while they are in the hospital and it contributes greatly to their healing.
