3 Second Week of Advent PREPARING OUR HEARTS ASKING for the GRACE We prepare this week by stepping up the longing. We move through this week naming deeper and more specific desires. Each morning this week, if even for that brief moment at the side of our beds, we want to light a second inner candle. We want to let it represent a bit more hope. Perhaps we can pause, breathe deeply and say, Lord, I place my trust in you. Each day this week, as we encounter times that are rushed, even crazy, we can take that deep breath, and make that profound prayer. Each time we face some darkness, some experience of parched land or desert, some place where we feel defeated or trapped, we hear the words, Our God will come to save us! The grace we desire for this week is to be able to hear the promise and to invite our God to come into those real places of our lives that dearly need God's coming. We want to be able to say: Lord, I place my trust in Your promise. Please, Lord, rouse Your power and come into this place in my life, this relationship, into this deep self-defeating pattern. Please, come here and save me. Each night this week we can look back over the day and give thanks for the moments of deep breath that opened a space for more trust and confidence in God's fidelity to us. No matter how difficult the challenges we are facing - from the growing realization of our personal sinfulness, to any experience of emptiness or powerlessness, even in the face of death itself - we can give thanks for the two candles that faithfully push back the darkness. We can give thanks for the graces given us to believe that Our God will come to save us because we were given the courageous faith to desire and ask boldly. Come, Lord Jesus. Come and visit your people.! We await your coming... Come, O Lord! SCRIPTURAL REFLECTION December 09, 2018 And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value (Phil 1:9-10) Glittery holiday ads can blind us to our stewardship values and distort our needs and wants. During this season of endless buying, It is important to remember we all need to give back to God and to those in need. The SAINT NICHOLAS POUCH A Saint Ann Tradition TODAY is the last day to bring Saint Nicholas Pouch gifts to the church. These families are counting on us! NOTE: Gifts received after December 9th, sadly will not arrive in time for Christmas to our families in need...do what you can!! Thank you for your continued support & generosity! 5 OUR LADY of GUADALUPE Feast Day December 12th God chose Mary, hidden and lowly, to be the Mother of God. He saw her humility, her holiness, and her readiness to say YES! By choosing Mary, God sends the message that everyone is precious in His sight, even those who go unnoticed. On this feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we recall Mary s appearance to a simple peasant named Juan Diego that sparked a powerful outpouring of grace throughout the Americas. On this day, Mary is asking us to pay attention to the lowly and the humble; to notice the hidden people around us: the homeless woman, the private neighbor or the quiet janitor ALL worthy of OUR attention. The need is especially urgent during the Christmas season, when so many people feel their loneliness more keenly. Sometimes, we feel hidden remember how God saw Mary, and loved what He saw He sees us too! He loves us! God gives us signs of His love: His Son!! Today, let us THANK GOD and resolve to bring that love to other people. Father, You have favored me with Your gaze of tenderness. Send me to share this gaze with anyone who needs to be lifted up. ~Adapted: HOBOKEN CATHOLIC YOUTH MINISTRY (HCYM) The Hoboken Catholic Youth Ministry (HCYM) is a new youth group targeting high-school age parishioners from the five Hoboken area churches TEENS IN GRADES 9-12 are invited to join for faith, fun and fellowship DECEMBER 17th 7pm-9pm ST. Confirmation, brings the process of Christian Initiation to completion. The process is one of a small-group, adult learning experience. The focus of the program is to connect the practice of our Catholic faith to our experiences in our everyday lives. Participants will look at how their image of God affects the way in which they are in relation to Him. This program is an opportunity to see for the first time the faith of the Church with an adult understanding. The class meets for 10 continuous Tuesdays, February 5th thru April 16th, 7pm 9pm Padre Pio Chapel, 619 Jefferson Street For more information, please contact Cheryl M James, Director of RCIA by phone: Ext. 102 or via cherylmjames@stannhoboken.com. Adults, who have not completed their sacraments of Baptism and First Communion are to follow the normal route through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). please contact Cheryl James for details. VOCATION PRAYER CHALICE Dedicate one week of Advent to pray for Vocations to the Priesthood & Religious Life! We have begun a beautiful ministry of prayer for vocations: Vocation Prayer Chalice. Each Sunday at the end of Mass, a family or individual is presented with the Vocation Prayer Chalice, a candle, and a booklet with prayers and commit to pray each day on behalf of our parish for vocations. May our prayers help inspire those with a calling to religious life to be attentive to the movement of the Holy Spirit within them, to step forward in faith and with generous hearts and to go wherever the Spirit leads them! Prayerfully consider making it part of your ADVENT in preparing for Jesus coming... The Holy Spirit is working through us. To volunteer to pray with the Vocation Prayer Chalice, please call the parish office: , see Fr Remo after Mass or parishoffice@stannhoboken.com to place your name on the Vocation Prayer Chalice schedule. There is power in prayer!! LET GO LET GOD!! Worry and anxiety are all-too common in our hurried, stressful, unpredictable lives. God wants something better for us. Claim this encouraging promise from our loving Father in heaven Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved ~Psalm 55:22
