1 M A R C H The Grapevine H O L Y T R I N I T Y E P I S C O P A L C H U R C H M e s s a g e f r o m Fr. Tom Good morning all; It is great to be back from my trip away to Austria with my adopted "Big Brother" Bob. We had a great time in Austria and the skiing was great, with wonderful views, complete with lederhosen, polkas, beer, and après ski activities. In Austria you don't ski from run to run like we do in Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico and Colorado. No! We say, "Well, we'll go up #1 and ski "Drifter" to the Back 40 and over to the quad-chair lift and back. In Austria one skis from town to town! Austrians I found out have no concept little concept of taking a run or just getting on a chair lift and skiing to the bottom again. In the Bar after skiing one day the pretty bartender (with blonde braids and in a folk outfit) asked, "Where did you ski?" "Wagrain" we said together. "Wagrain to where? Alpendorf?" she asked "No we skied Alpendorf yesterday?" "Oh so you winter (vinter) camped" Well now Bob and I are very confused! "You didn't ski from Wagrain to Aplendorf un then back." I N S I D E T H I S I S S U E : Vestry Sermon on the 1-2 Prayer Cycle 3-4 Senior Wardens Report 5 Miscellaneous Notes 6 Calendar 7 Steward Schedule 8 " No.... Can you do that?" (I told you we needed a guide Bob a guide would have told us that I said to myself). "Oh ya ( va ) I did so just last day my day uf -- vas powder so deep. You ski tomorrow yes." "Yes we will ski tomorrow." "Tomorrow you ski 'Muhlbach', to 'Dienten' to 'Maria Alm' then back. I show you such" and she pulls out a map. The next day we followed her plan! What a day it was following her path.

2 Message from Fr. Tom cont. M A R C H So we too have a path in front of us. And yes from time to time we do lose our way. My friend's reluctance to ask for directions from locals and/or those who have "been there -- done that" is typical of human nature. Pride gets in our way. When the map isn't clear, and we can't make our direction.... we can ask. It will keep us from plowing the same ground twice, or riding the same chairlift all day! Sometimes when we are confused (lost) the Spirit will move, as it moved the young woman above, the Spirit will move others to help us. Pride need not get in our way then either! "We can figure this out on our own" is a very prideful... perhaps even sinful response to "Gee can I give you a hand." As a congregation... as Vestry, as a building committee or what ever Committee we serve let us remind our selves that we don't have all the answers to every question, and let us be open to the Holy Spirit when it taps us on the shoulder from an unexpected source. In Christ's name, let us continue to pray for guidance and accept it when it comes. We are close to building... and we will need help. Let us ask for it when we need it and accept it when it comes to us seemingly out of the blue. Tom+

Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. 5 M A R C H S e n i o r Wa r d n e n s R ep o r t May the God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace! We are well into the start of 2014 and we will be starting Lent in the not too distant future. We will be having a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper with the Presbyterians to be held in the undercroft. Stay tuned for more details. The Luau planning is progressing. I thank David Hill and his committee chairs for all the work that has been done. We still need volunteers for the committees. All of us need to sell tickets so please see Bobbie Rognmoe for tickets. It would be really nice if all the tickets could be sold by mid-march. Remember that there is a job for everyone to do so that the Luau will be a success. The Capital Campaign and Fund Raising committee will be meeting to strategize the raising of the next $500,000 to complete the building of the new church. Everyone is welcome to attend. We are in need of ideas. See Fr. Tom or me if you have suggestions. The Building Committee is working with Alex Gilmore to get the new bids. The next meeting is March 6 th. If everything goes well we will be breaking ground for the new church by May. Thanks be to God! At the annual meeting we voted to decrease the size of the vestry to six members. With this change it decreased the number of people available to count the plate offering. We will be changing the way that the counting of the plate offering is done. We need two people to count. One of the people needs to be a vestry member but the other person can be a member of the congregation. So, if you are asked to help count please consider it a privilege and say yes. You will increase your knowledge of what happens to your offerings and donations. As we enter into the Lenten season let us remember that it is a time to walk with Jesus toward the Cross. It can be a time of soul searching for renewal; a time of repentance for a new life; a time of allowing God to work in your life to change you. And, by giving of yourself you become more Christ like. Frederick Buechner stated it like this: The world says, The more you take, the more you have. Christ says, The more you give, the more you are. Let God work in your life this Lent and thank Him for the changes in your life and the gifts you will receive. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all, now and always. Maggi McCreery-McCoy
