Parents and godparents must attend a baptismal preparation class before the baptism. Other requirements will be discussed at the initial interview. Matrimony-Weddings are celebrated throughout the year. In accord with Church Law, at least one of the parties to be married must be a member of St. Joseph, otherwise special permissions are needed. Marriage preparation is to begin at least 6 months prior to the wedding. It is strongly recommended that a couple planning to be married at St. Joseph contact the Parish before making any contractual arrangements with a facility for their reception. During the initial interview with the priest of the Parish, the couple will be provided with all the necessary information needed for their preparation expenence. 3 Participate in the Arizona Rosary Celebration Poster Contest Children grades K-8 are encouraged to participate in the Poster Contest learning more about Our Lady. The theme this year is: "Our Lady of Czestochowa and one of her many miracles." Create a poster reflecting the theme on paper (8-1 /2" x 11 ") using crayons, colored pencils, paint, and even embellishments. The BACK of the poster must have the Child's Name (first and last), the School or Parish (include the city), Child's grade and Parent's name with an and/or cell phone. Winners will be notified and be invited to a Pizza Party with Bishop Weisenburger! We welcome those 18 years of age or older who want to investigate the Catholic faith and receive instruction in its teachings. The RCIA program is intended for those who are either 1) un-baptized, 2) baptized in non Catholic faiths, or 3) baptized Catholics who have not received first Holy Communion and Confirmation. In addition, if you are a fully initiated Catholic who would like to enhance your understanding of our Faith, you are invited to attend all or any of the sessions. Sessions with be on alternate Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 PM and alternate Sundays from 10:30 to 11:30 AM in the St. Francis Room at the Parish Office. The classes will end after reception of the sacraments of initiation at the 2019 Easter vigil. 5 In 1938, the Knights of Columbus established what many regard as the first blood donor program sponsored by a national organization. In response, hundreds of councils began blood donor groups. Today, 80% of Red Cross blood drives occur in partnership with business and community organizations like the Knights of Columbus. Knights -organized blood drives obtain over 400,000 donations annually. St. Joseph Council is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive/Pancake Breakfast all morning Sunday, September 2. All who try to donate get a free Knights of Columbus meal. All are invited to both events. Italian or breakfast sausage paired with blueberry, chocolate chip or buttermilk pancakes, a dollop of butter and syrup make for a tasty treat after Mass. Even if you can't give blood, come on over! If you are a Catholic man interested in becoming a Knight, please contact our council at or by at Kofc8813@yahoo.com THIS EUCHARISTIC FEAST Some things about human nature don't change, even over the course of centuries. When we celebrate a holiday, we have a meal; when we celebrate a significant event, we have a feast. In today's first reading, Lady Wisdom is setting a feast, a sign of celebrating the covenant that Israel has with God. Israel's central remembrance of its saving Exodus covenant is the Passover meal. So it is natural-and not coincidental-that the Christian celebration of the new covenant sealed by the blood of Christ on the cross happens at a meal, our Eucharist, offered first by Jesus in the context of Passover remembrance. It is easy for us, sometimes, to forget the very long and rich religious and human origins of our Eucharistic feasting on the bread and cup that are the Body and Blood of Jesus. Today, and for the next few Sundays that we hear the "Bread of Life" discourse from John, let us bring to mind the loving covenant that God makes with us, and be filled with great joy at this marvelous feast that we have come to attend!
