My Dear Friends in Christ, From the Pastor s Desk, This weekend marks the last of the Solemnities celebrated on the Sundays of Ordinary Time immediately after the Easter Season. This Sunday, Corpus Christi, our liturgy draws our attention to the mystery of the Eucharist. But please understand, the word mystery does not suggest a puzzle to be solved. Rather, when we use the word mystery in the context of our Catholic faith, we refer to a reality that is both at once understandable by faith and reason but also one whose depth can never be exhausted. What we do this weekend, then, is to reflect upon the Eucharist so that we may grow in deeper understanding and appreciation. At the same time, our reflection invites us to simple adoration of the Risen Christ present to us in the Eucharist, body and soul, humanity and divinity. The Eucharist is the truest representation of what is means to be called Catholic: blessed, broken, shared, and given to our brothers and sisters. This weekend s Corpus Christi Procession is always a massive undertaking: many thanks to all those who offered assistance! From the sacred to the profane: as the bulletin went to print, I was preparing for a significant meeting regarding the air conditioning of the church. I am planning to publish an extensive update next weekend in our bulletin outlining the status of the project. I am very grateful for your patience. In honor of this Solemnity, we are having the Corpus Christi Procession following the 11:30am Mass. The procession will proceed down Convent Avenue to the First Station at the entrance to the High School. We will use south end High School Exit and go to the Sacred Heart statue for the Second Station. We will exit the lot and go left onto Voss Avenue. We will return to the church for the Third Station. Please join us as we celebrate this Most Holy day. Novena 7:00 pm THE THRIFT SHOP SUMMER SALE It s Summer Sale Time! The "Thrift Shop" is a "store" in the High School building. A wide variety of good clothing and accessories for women, men and children are available. Shelves contain an ever changing collection of housewares, toys and miscellaneous items. Donations may be dropped off to the shop during regular business hours. All proceeds go to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry. The shop is open Saturday from 10:00-2:00 pm. Here at Sacred Heart, we offer the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and for Children, which allows individuals the ability to be baptized into the Catholic faith as an adult or to complete their Sacraments of Initiation.
