4 SACRED HEART OF JESUS PARISH WEBSTER, MASSACHUSETTS PARISH EVENTS/NEWS FROM THE RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY ST VINCENT DE PAUL MINUTE In today s Gospel, Jesus says: Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then, come follow me. Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? Please remember Today October 14th is the walk for hunger leaving St. Anthony s at 12:15 p.m. This is a 5-mile walk from St. Anthony s Church in Dudley to The United Church of Christ in Webster and back. Put you pledges in! As you give your gift to the poor through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, in your heart you also will find the good news of God s love. STEWARDSHIP NOTE It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. (MARK 10:25) Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities. Prayer to Our Lady of Good Success Loving Mother of the Church, we beg your intercession for the restoration of the Catholic Church, and the strengthening of Sacred Heart Parish. May our gracious and loving Lord grant us the grace to persevere in these times and to aid in spreading devotion to you under the title of Our Lady of Good Success. Mary, we implore your prayer on our behalf that the Most Holy Trinity may be glorified anew by the way this two fold petition is answered. The fight for the right to life is not the cause of a special few, but the cause of every man, woman and child who cares not only about his or her own family, but the whole family of man. Dr. Mildred Jefferson Please contact Linda / linpaqu@hotmail.com for more information or if you would like to join the Respect Life Ministry. 7 TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 13~14, 2018 Diocese of Worcester Office of the Bishop 49 Elm Street Worcester Ma October 12, 2018 My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, In his message for World Mission Sunday 2018, our Holy Father reflects on how life itself is a mission. To live out joyfully our responsibility for the world is a great challenge... Each one of us is called to reflect on this fact: I am a mission on this Earth; that is the reason why I am here in this world. (Evangelii Gaudium 273). The world s missions include approximately 1,100 dioceses in Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and remote regions of Latin America. Help is offered for pastoral and evangelizing programs, for catechists and catechetical work, to build churches and chapels, for the work of religious communities in health care and education, and for communication and transportation needs. All Catholics have the opportunity to share in the mission of the servants of the Word through active participation in the efforts of the four Pontifical Mission Societies: The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Holy Childhood Association, the Society of St. Peter Apostle and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. All of us can be a part of this effort, especially through prayer and through encouraging others to come to an awareness of their own role in the Church's missionary work by virtue of their Baptism. I urge all in our diocesan family to share in the work of evangelization, offering your prayers and sacrifices for the Church's missionary efforts and in a special way on this World Mission Sunday on the weekend of October 21. Your generous support for this collection will also be a source of blessing for our own Diocese as we place evangelization at the heart of our Church's life and mission. This year, we are invited as well into a special opportunity to engage with Pope Francis and learn more about his missions. To do so, visit missio.org. With every prayerful best wish, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester
