4 SACRED HEART OF JESUS PARISH WEBSTER, MASSACHUSETTS PARISH EVENTS/NEWS FROM THE RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY FROM THE BLESSED SACRAMENT CHAPEL Eucharistic Adoration brings great consolation especially during times of extreme hardship. The Servant Of God, Cardinal Nyuyen Van Thuan, was imprisoned by the communists in Vietnam for 13 years. Under the cover of darkness, unbeknownst to his captors, he managed to say Mass every night for his fellow prisoners and even held Eucharistic Adoration. He stated: "At night, the prisoners took turns and spent time in adoration. The Blessed Sacrament helped tremendously. Even Buddhists and other non-christians were converted. The strength of the love of Jesus is irresistible. The darkness of the prison turned into light, the seed germinated silently in the storm." (Servant Of God Cardinal Francis Xavier Nguyen Van Thuan, 1928 to 2002) PARTNERS IN CHARITY Jesus reminds us to give special care to those who are most in need. It is our Christian duty to give a voice to those who are unheard and to help those who are most vulnerable. The services made possible through Partners in Charity touch hundreds of lives throughout Central Massachusetts. If you did not complete your pledge over the past few weeks it is not too late to do so. Any amount, payable by cash, check or credit card will help us reach our parish goal of $40,000. Pledging a gift over a 10-month period allows for a more generous and affordable contribution. A matching contribution doubles the value of your gift. And to those who have been away for a while, your gift is most welcome. The total amount pledged by Sacred Heart to date is $17,739. We need your prayers and your help. Thank you. "Assisted suicide causes needless loss of lives around the world. People with years or decades to live are induced to throw away their lives. Assisted suicide proponents promote dying rather than living." -Dr. Paul Saba, President of the Coalition of Physicians for Social Justice and family physician, Montreal, Canada. Please contact Linda / linpaqu@hotmail.com for more information or if you would like to join the Respect Life Ministry. Thank You The Respect Life Committee, would like to thank all those who contributed to the Mother's Day Novena Cards. $ was collected and sent to Visitation House in Worcester for their work with mothers and their babies. SPIRIT IN THE LIFE SEMINAR Deacon Roland will be holding an 8 week seminar on the Holy Spirit on Monday nights starting on June 4th at 7:00 pm in the Emmaus Center. It's free and all are invited. I will be covering the gifts of the Holy Spirit, His manifestations in the scriptures and His importance in our spiritual growth. I will also share tips on how to develop a communication system and relationship with Him. For more information or questions he can be contacted by at rbmich@live.com or by telephone at STEWARDSHIP NOTE The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (ROMANS 8:16-17) If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn t we work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn t we be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time in prayer, our talent in charitable works and our treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way? SAVE THE DATE! June 3 rd : St. Anne s Installation Dinner at Mac s about 12:30 cost is $22 a person. 7 MOST HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY May 26~27, 2018 May 24, 2018 The truth will set you free. (John 8:32) Pope Francis, Message for the 52nd World Communications Day, 2018 Diocese of Worcester Office of the Bishop 49 Elm Street Worcester Ma My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, In his message this year for World Communications Day, Pope Francis contrasts the constructive power of authentic communications and the destructive nature of fake news in our world. He writes, a weighty responsibility rests on the shoulders of those whose job is to provide information, namely journalists, the protectors of news. In today s world... it is a mission... it means being in touch with people s lives... a real means of promoting goodness, generating trust, and opening the way to communion and peace. On the weekend of June 3 rd, our Diocese will take up a collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). This national collection helps bring the Gospel message to the public square so that all can know the love of God and help make this a better world. It is not a mere coincidence that the pope s citation from the Gospel of St. John has also been part of the masthead of our own newspaper, The Catholic Free Press, for the past 67 years and now, by extension, the vision of our diocesan-wide Communications Ministry. Faithful and honest sharing about the life of our Catholic Community is at the service of our evangelizing mission, which seeks to proclaim God s love to the world as the true path to eternal happiness. As people continue to access more information on mobile devices and feel overwhelmed by so much noise, there is an increased need to provide faith resources on these platforms as well. With your support of the CCC, the daily readings and seasonal reflections are available as free podcasts to download and listen to at any time, or to read from our diocesan and parish websites along with watching local Masses and program, as well as reading local and national Catholic news stories. Thanks to your donations, Catholics are able to stay connected to their parish and to their Catholic faith even when they are traveling or not regularly at Mass. Roughly half of the funds collected will remain here in the Diocese to help our local communications projects expand parish-centered communications in collaboration with diocesan programs. The remainder funds national media relations and communications efforts as well as international projects in developing countries. For more information about the collection and the projects it supports, visit We must rely on your financial support of this collection in order to truly heed the words of Pope Francis, As sons and daughters of God, we are called to communicate with everyone, without exception. Please accept my thanks for reflecting on how you can help. With every prayerful best wish, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. McManus Bishop of Worcester
