Due to postal regulations we can no longer send raffle tickets through the mail. We d like to ask you to consider purchasing chances for these special items this holiday season! The quilt will be an display in the parish hall after all the Masses beginning the weekend of December 2 nd & 3 rd. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, this week s bulle n was transmi ed on Friday, 11/ Membership Drive We have already been asked when we will be selling our 2018 tickets for the 100 Club season, January, 2018 through the 1 st weekend in November, The committee will begin their sales on the weekend of December 2 nd /3 rd! As in the past, the tickets are $100 for the year or $10/month beginning with the month of January through October. Two prizes are awarded per month, 1 st place, $100 and 2 nd place, $50. On the first weekend in November, 2018 the remaining prize money, $3,500 is drawn. As usual, it is first come, first serve regarding selecting the number you would like to purchase. The balance of $5,000 is given to the parish as a fund raiser. Thank you for your consideration again this year and congratulations to all our 2017 winners! MEMORIAL BRICKS UPDATE Thank you to all the parishioners who sent in their forms for new bricks. We have closed the 2017 brick requests so that this will enable our company the time to fill all of our requests by the end of November. We will call all participants when your bricks have been installed. If you have any questions please contact Helen Dumont at , ext. 3. PLEASE NOTE: We will be moving the original bricks close to the building behind the Marian Garden should you still want to take your brick that was replaced. Thank you! The summer religious education program will be held during August 6 th -10 th next summer, The summer religious education program is the second component of our Faith Formation program for grades K-Grade 5 ( ). By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ s work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ s saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls the least ones (Matthew 25:45). 5 REFLECTIONS By Bishop Christian The Feast of Christ the King, which we celebrate today, is the final Sunday of the church year. It is perhaps fitting, then, that today s gospel is about the final event of history, the last judgement. What is perhaps surprising to us is the criteria Christ uses for that judgement. What is the ground on which some are welcomed into his kingdom and others rejected? Simply put, it is compassion for those in need. Christ identifies himself with those in need and counts goodness to them as his measuring rod for eternity. Some African peoples exemplify this in the concept of ubuntu. When some children were told that the first child to win the race to a basket of fruit would get all the fruit, all the children joined hands and ran together. Asked why they did that, they answered, Ubuntu. How can one of us be happy if all the others are sad? So for us. How can one of us be satisfied if many of our sisters and brothers have nothing? The picture of the race helps me begin to understand Jesus words. He is the King we honor today, the Shepherd who calls us to care for his flock. We can call him our king and enter his kingdom only when his concerns are ours, and when we respond to him in the poor and needy as he requires. Today, He says to us ubuntu. Live that way and you will enter the kingdom.
