3 Parish & Community News Parish Survey Results The parish survey summary reports, in graph format, are posted on partitions in the Narthex and are also available on our parish web site. Please take some time to review the results. The parish ministries and committees will be taking time to review all of the comments in the weeks ahead. The Pastoral Council would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in the survey. OCTOBER, Month of the Holy Rosary Honor our Blessed Mother Please join us at 7:30am Sunday before the 8am Mass and immediately after the 4pm Saturday and the 10am Sunday Masses in the Eucharistic Chapel for the recitation of the holy rosary in honor of our Blessed Mother Mary throughout the month of October. Members of the Knights of Columbus and faithful parishioners will lead the rosary. The rosary is a powerful prayer against the evil in this world. Come and pray for our church, for priests, for peace in our hearts, peace in our homes and peace in the world. The Liturgy Committee NEW! LITTLE LIGHTS PLAY GROUP will begin Tuesday, October 3 rd, 10-11:15am, in Room 2/3/4 (Triple Room). 1 st and 3 rd Tuesdays for infants and young children (through age 5), with a parent or caregiver. KNIGHTS NEWS Saint Joseph Knights of Columbus Council Ham & Bean Dinner Saturday, October 28 th at 5:30pm (immediately after the 4:00pm Mass) Support the Scholarship Fund, Parish & Council! Ham & Beans, Coleslaw, Rolls & Butter, Coffee/Tea/Soda & Assorted Desserts $10 per person 50/50 Raffle will also be held! The Family Ministry Committee will be sponsoring the following three events: Boston Bruin Games Event #1: Monday, October 9 th, Columbus Day, 1pm vs Colorado Avalanche Event #2: Monday, November 6 th 7pm vs Minnesota Wild The seats are in a Promenade box on the 9 th floor and there is elevator service. $115 per ticket includes Bruins hat, popcorn, pizza, chicken fingers, soda or water. Transportation is on your own. Trains from Lowell and Billerica go directly to TD Garden. Parking at the Garden is $45 which is affordable if you load your car and split the cost. We can try to organize car pools for those interested. Boston Pops Christmas Event #3: Saturday, December 16 th, 7:30pm at SNHU Arena in Manchester. Tickets are $53 per person. Transportation is on your own. Sign ups for all three events will take place after all Masses this weekend, September 30 th -October 1 st in the parish hall. We have the names of those who had a funeral Mass here at St. Joseph. If you have lost a family member during the past year and their funeral was held elsewhere and you would like them to be remembered at this Mass, please notify Kim in the Parish Office by Monday, October 23 rd. You may call or the office or put a note in the collection basket. Address it to Kim and give your name, address and the name of your loved one. You ll receive an invitation reminding you of the date and time of the Mass. Thursday Evening Rosary Thursday Evenings at 6:00pm (In the Chapel) The prayer of the rosary is perfect, because of the praises it offers, the lessons it teaches, the graces it obtains, and the victories it achieves. 5 REFLECTIONS By Bishop Christian With this Labor Day already far behind us, the summer is over for many of us. The slower days of summer have given way to life as normal, which usually means more to do and running faster trying to keep up. Recently Archbishop Michael Neary of the Diocese of Tuam in Ireland participated with 30,000 other pilgrims climbing Croagh Patrick in County Mayo in honor of St. Patrick who in the year 441 spent 40 days and nights fasting on the mountain in imitation of Christ. In his homily at the summit of the mountain, Archbishop Neary said some things which all of us need to consider in regard to the pace of our lives. Here are some excerpts from his homily. All of us have to slow down as we climb to the summit. Now and again we stop to catch our breath, or perhaps to gaze on the beauty of God s creation. This is one of those pilgrimages which takes the ever demanding rush out of life. The world in which we live has set an impossible pace. We are rushed from infancy to adolescence and then through those special years to an ill-timed adulthood. Then, as we grow older we might be left to one side as following generations may see us as a burden or a handicap to their progress and ambition. Perhaps, today, we might bring home a lesson from this old mountain of St. Patrick. We might discover the need to reflect, to slow down the pace of life, to wonder at the beauty of the earth, and to really appreciate the value of our friends. We live in the age of the instant, where there is no joy in the anticipation and no time to value the achievement. We have forgotten about the sacredness of now or, as some put it, the sacrament of the present moment. Most of us agree with these words of the Archbishop. The pace of our lives is too fast. We want to slow down, but we don t know how. Perhaps as summer comes to an end, we should pray for the wisdom to rid our lives of what prevents us from being able to enjoy the present moment.
