Girl guides Guides drop God and country but keep the Queen The Girl Guides are to drop references to God and country from their traditional pledge but are to retain a public expression of allegiance to the Queen. It is not the first time that the organisation, founded in 1909 under the leadership of Agnes Baden-Powell, sister of Robert Baden-Powell, the creator of the Scouting movement, has altered the wording of its traditional promise over the last century but it is by far the most radical change.

Scouts Scouts introduce additional alternative Promise. The Scout Association (TSA) has launched an additional alternative version to the core Scout Promise in order to officially welcome atheists into the Movement. Following an extensive 10-month consultation process within and outside of the Movement, TSA has introduced an additional alternative version of the Scout Promise that can be taken by those without a faith for the first time in its 106-year history. The additional alternative version to the Scout Promise will be available to be used by Scout Groups from 1 January 2014 and plans are underway to help prepare the Movement for this change.

Part 2 : Evolution

Does the new Pope believe in evolution? The answer is actually yes. And in fact, the Roman Catholic Church has recognized Darwinian evolution for the past 60 years. It openly rejects Intelligent Design and Young Earth Creationism saying that it "pretends to be science." Pope Francis

Intelligent design 'not science', says Vatican astronomer (21st Nov 2005) Father Coyne has consistently argued against regarding intelligent design as scientific. In June he wrote in Catholic magazine The Tablet: "If they respect the results of modern science, and indeed the best of modern biblical research, religious believers must move away from the notion of a dictator God or a designer God, a Newtonian God who made the universe as a watch that ticks along regularly." God, he wrote, is not "continually intervening, but rather allows, participates, loves".

Georges Lemaître: He was the first known academic to propose the theory of the expansion of the Universe (The Big Bang Theory-1927) Jesuit trained R.C. Priest.

Evolution and the Holocaust Darwin s influence was tremendous and his ideas were applied to many areas of life. One of his admirers was Friedrich Nietzsche ( ), a German philosopher. Nietzsche took the famous naturalist s reasoning to what he felt was its logical conclusion he longed to see the development of a super-race, and he felt that such could only be achieved by the extinction of inferior races and individuals. Nietzsche was a vigorous opponent of Christian morality, which he knew fostered support for the weak. His ideas did not die with him. Nietzsche s views, coupled with the earlier notions of Johann Fichte ( ) who argued that the Germans were a superior race destined to assume leadership of the civilized world provided the philosophical basis for Hitler s policy which was implemented in the Holocaust. He believed that the German people were the highest species on earth. Germans must be kept pure, he argued, so that German children would be images of the Lord and not monstrosities halfway between man and ape (Jenks 1979, 238). He felt that if the Jews were allowed to mingle with the superior species, it would render futile an evolutionary higher stage of being (Clark 1967, 115). When Hitler came into full power in the early 1930s, his beliefs were politically and militarily set in motion.

Evolution and the Holocaust In Mein Kampf, Hitler declared: The mixing of the higher and lower races is clearly against the intent of nature and involves the extinction of the Aryan race.... Where Aryan blood has mixed with that of lower peoples the result has been the end of the bearers of culture (Howard and Rifkin 1977, 72). Sir Arthur Keith was one of Great Britain s leading evolutionary anthropologists in the mid-1900s. In one of his popular books he conceded: The German Fuhrer, as I have consistently maintained, is an evolutionist; he has consciously sought to make the practices of Germany conform to the theory of evolution (1947, 230).. Doctor Robert E. D. Clark has noted: Adolf Hitler s mind was captivated by evolutionary teaching probably since the time he was a boy. Evolutionary ideas quite undisguised lie at the basis of all that is worst in Mein Kampf and in his public speeches (115).

LATIMER AND RIDLEY AT THE STAKE

"Therefore it is necessary to withdraw the Bible from the sight of the people but with extreme caution in order not to cause rebellion." Part of an address to Pope Julius 3rd in 1559 after his elevation to the Papacy, delivered by the Cardinals of the Roman Court. Taken from a historical document of the reformation times held in the National Library of Paris. "Of all the advice we can give to your Holiness, we have kept the most necessary to the last. We must open our eyes and use all possible force in the matter, namely, to permit the reading of the Gospel as little as possible, especially in the vernacular, in all the countries under your jurisdiction. Let the very little part of the Gospel suffice that is usually read in the Mass, and let no-one be permitted to read more. So long as the people will be content with the small amount, your interests will prosper, but as soon as the people want to read more your interests will begin to fail. "The bible is the book that more than any other has raised against us the tumults and the tempests by which we have almost perished. In fact, if any one examines closely and compares the teachings of the Bible with what takes place in our churches he will soon find discord and will realise that our teachings are often different from the Bible and oftener still contrary to it, and if people wake up to this, they will never stop challenging us until everything is laid bare and then we shall become the objects of universal scorn and hatred.

Pope Francis Says Atheists Who Do Good Are Redeemed, Not Just Catholics, Pope Francis On Gays: Who Am I To Judge Them? : And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. Rev ch.16 vs 13-14

Sects and Society: A Sociological Study (Bryan R. Wilson, 1961) Conclusion: The advent is still awaited with eagerness, but with less direct confidence than marked the early period. Informally, there has been a shift of emphasis from the kingdom to the cross, from polemical exegesis to devotional activity.

Such a warfare seems strangely absent today. No one would say we are contending with principalities and the powers of darkness in the forceful way described by Paul. Our strength and courage generated by faith, are at a low ebb. Attacking an enemy with the sword of the spirit has little approval. It was different with our brethren of a previous generation. In the last century the brethren were willing to show their hostility to the institutions of the world around us, as the early literature of the Christadelphians shows. This is illustrated by two early pamphlets that were in print up to the 2nd world war: 'Who are the Christadelphians?' and The sect everywhere spoken against'.
