But each of us has stayed in Rotary because it adds something to our lives. Through Rotary we are "Making a Difference" in the world, and the more involved we become, the more of a difference Rotary makes to us. Rotary challenges us to become better people: to become ambitious in the ways that matter, to strive for higher goals and to incorporate "Service Above Self" into our daily lives. What kind of difference Rotary Clubs and individual Rotarians make through their service will always be their own decision. As an organisation, we are guided by the three strategic priorities our Board has set in our Strategic Plan: to support and strengthen our clubs,to focus on and increase our humanitarian service, and to enhance Rotary's public image and awareness." Thought provoking words from Ian Riseley our International President. As members of the Woy Woy Rotary Club perhaps it is worth reflecting on these thoughts and ask ourselves are we making a difference and can we improve on what we already do. Russell Grove-President

2 Memories of the last meeting On behalf of the President, I am writing to tell you what a great time we had at the meeting on Tuesday, when two of our members and friends were the guest speakers. So, to those members who did not come because they thought it would be boring, I say: - Ted was a part of this talk in that he provided the sound effects and music, from a wedding march to Handel s Hallelujah chorus. Both these wonderful people are involved either as members or friends and gave us a real insight into their world that most of us will only touch on the edges. It was anything but and you missed a couple of great speakers on interesting and unusual subjects. Firstly, we had John Steinbeck, who talked about his life as a Pilot and as a senior sales executive of Hawker de Havilland. Later working for Beechcraft with planes like the King Air, The Baron and the famous Bonanza. He gave us an interesting look at the experiences of a bush flyer in New Guinea, Then took us on a virtual tour of the Beechcraft aircraft models that he had flown and sold. Please see below a picture of John in full flight about his favorite Beechcraft models. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. Sir Winston Churchill 1940 Advice to persons about to Marry Don t Punch Magazine The second speaker was Maureen Crawley who spoke with passion and eloquence about her life as a Wedding and Funeral Celebrant. Well this talk was a laugh a minute, as Maureen walked us through the preparation and execution of her many wedding and funerals. She spoke with humor about trying to get her darling husband to tell her what preparations she could make for Ted and his new model mistress his Ford Ranger. She proposed to make her rival for his affection into the centrepiece of his funeral. The reason for this was that he loved it, lavished time and money on it, took it to romantic places, and bought it presents. Gentlemen just be careful how much love and time you dedicate to your car or bike or you may depart this world in or on it!! 2

3 From the Editor Well here we go again issue number four for 2017/2018 the old dog is still learning. Big thank you from Jayne and Mary Mac s Thanks to members who kindly donated items of warm clothing for Mary Mac's. The boot of my car was full up and I delivered it this morning. It was extremely well received. A table was produced instantly and the garments displayed. One lady said 0h how lovely this is I will be able to go out looking well dressed for a change. I must add that our fantastic Vic Brown received their praise as well, for getting the Men's shed involved to help with some renovations. This in addition to walking REX the beast, Mary s hound, every day. This picture came into my possession quite by accident, who is it? It seems to me we have members in our Club who do great things for our community without any accolades from anybody. My thanks again to you all. Jayne Ted s truck s sister? 4 To be seventy years young is sometimes far more cheerful and hopeful than to be forty years old. Oliver Wendell Holmes Rainbows over Umina Beach don t know where the crock of Gold is? The strange positions that Rotary members get into, when trying to help other members. Don was investigating a leaking water filler tap, for Jayne. What looked like a small job is getting to Ben Hur proportions because of lack of space. Hello Rotarians and friends I am very sorry that I have not been able to contact you and tell you how I am going, I am so busy lately and my time here has gone so fast it is hard to keep up. I have played and watched lots of football since being here but now I am focusing more on friends, family, Danish and school. I have cooked pavlovas for my families which I have now had three of, I love my current host family and never want to move, I will move to my final family in September. I have been to so many places in Copenhagen and I know the city like the back of my hand, I have visited Tivoli, nyhavn, superkilen, paperion, Danish war museum, the round tower, bakken, Roskilde, the beaches up north, I went to my year 10 formal, on a Copenhagen canal tour, ikea so many times, my euro tour (more later), the airport so many times to say goodbye to my friends going home, Danish tram museum, hunting for hidden sculptures in the forest in hoje tåstrup, Malmö, to Fyn and Jutland to take my sister to her camp and H.C Andersen s house and more things but these are the most exciting things. My euro tour was amazing I visited berlin where I saw Obama speak and the berlin wall, I travelled next to Prague my favourite city where we visited the john Lennon wall, saw many amazing churches and amazing streets of Prague we also visited a concentration camp from ww2, we then went to Austria where we watched a performance of classical music in a grand church, then we travelled to lido di jesolo in Italy and there we went to the beach and we all loved it, also we travelled to Venice and it was beautiful, we took a trip on a gondola and got gelatos and pizza. Next we went to Verona and saw a mini colosseum and the Romeo and Juliet balcony. We then visited Monaco and Nice and went to the beach and walked down the beautiful streets filled with nice cars and sun. Then we continued to Paris and saw the Eiffel tower, Notre dame, Moulin rouge, Disneyland, I saw the Mona lisa in the louvre, PSG s stadium (football team) and the Sacre Coeur. Next we went to Belgium and saw the peeing baby and got Belgium waffles. And the last place we stopped before home was Amsterdam where we went on a famous canal tour. Then we came home to Denmark. This is just some of the amazing things I have done here and it is going so fast I am already half way through and I can t keep track of everything I have done because there is always more to do. I am travelling to Malta in a couple days and I am very excited for that also. I hope all of you are well and happy at home and I will be back before you know and be able to tell you all of the amazing stories from the amazing places I have experienced.
