2 The Wello Hello Volume 9, Issue 19, 29 th April 2018 LOGGING IN WITH LORRAINE Greetings to everyone! 'No hands - no feet - no excuses' these were the words of Johaan Kaa as he came to share a night with us recently. This defining phrase epitomises just who Johaan is - a man, who in June 2014, went down with what he thought was man flu. Today he defies odds - has faced up to challenges many of us just could not even imagine let alone come to terms with. He has faced times of darkness and times of resentment but he is now the happy, humble, patient and inspirational person that he, along with wife Pip and the three children - whom he makes the very most of each and every day. Kiaora Cuz. I'm not often short of words - but each time I think of Johaan I feel humbled. It was our pleasure sharing a night with him recently and I look forward to working for and with him in the days ahead. The Rotary Club family of Wellington Point with Johaan (centre). We have plenty happening in Wellington Point Rotary Club. Several of us attended the screening of 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society' movie hosted by Balmoral Rotary in aid of the Polio programme - we came away having thoroughly enjoyed the company of other movie patrons but also enjoying the movie itself. 3 Oriental at Eight Mile Plains. It would be lovely to think a few of us from our Club could attend this event. I'm going - who's coming with me? 'Be the Inspiration' - cost is $60 per person. And while I'm thinking about District events - Rotary District 9630 Conference is to be held on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd March and it's in Brisbane! Early bird registrations are available and you can 'Be the Inspiration' and registrar@9630conference2019.com.au to book your place at this event. I've just been up in Toowoomba for PEPS (President Elect Preparation) and I thank the Club for the opportunity to attend this well run event. There's plenty on the horizon and we have a huge opportunity to 'Be an Inspiration' and to further enhance the work of Rotary as we work in collaboration with our other Redlands Rotary Club members. We've recently been able to be involved in the Redlands Museum joint project and that's just the beginning - other opportunities are just around the corner. May is our African Hearts 'Build a Village of Hope' dinner at Ormiston College and all hands will be required to be on deck! Meals still continue to be supplied fortnightly from Jaipur Palace to the Redland Community Centre, where 30 meals were delivered recently by Matty and Miki. Our regular Bunnings BBQs have also been going strong, with our next BBQ on Wednesday 2nd May. On that note, see you all when I return in time for our meeting on Wednesday 9th May when we have John Simpson who is a member of Cleveland Club, sharing his passion for 'Relay for Life' and 'Circle of Men'. This is President Lorraine - signing out for another fortnight! VANUATU UPDATE This is the sign being created for the Kindy at Maewo which is being drafted and built just look at the colours! For our Club there is much on the horizon - and next week you will have Gordon presiding whilst I am in New Zealand - hopefully spending time again with my Rotarian friends in Tauranga/Te Papa Rotary Club at their lunchtime meeting. Remember to consider seriously about attending District Assembly on Sunday 20 th May out at Centenary High - this is an interactive day when you will learn a lot and will have the opportunity for active participation in all that is being discussed. Check it out here: /sharm-foundation-continues-post-pamsupport-schools/ MERCY SHIPS MEETING On the 30 th May we will have a very special Rotary event we will have the pleasure of Alan Burrell from Mercy Ships presenting at our club. Mercy Ships and Rotary already have a recognised partnership through fundraising and the Rotary Foundation vocational training programme, and this presentation will focus on the good work being done. This event is open to other Rotarians from surrounding clubs, and invitations are currently being released so spread the word! See you there! JUST LIKE OLD TIMES Most of the generation of 60+ were home schooled in many ways. "Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're involved in an accident." 7.My father taught me IRONY. "Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about." 8.My mother taught me about the science of OSMOSIS. "Shut your mouth and eat your dinner." 9.My mother taught me about CONTORTIONISM. "Just you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!" 10.My mother taught me about STAMINA. "You can just sit there until all that spinach is gone." 11.My mother taught me about WEATHER. "Looks like a dam tornado has been through your bedroom 12.My mother taught me about HYPOCRISY. "If I told you once, I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate 13.My father taught me the CIRCLE OF LIFE. "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out..." 14.My mother taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION. "Stop acting like your father!" 15.My mother taught me about ENVY.
