Easter Sunday April 16, 2017 ALLELUIA and WELCOME!! Thank you for coming to Mass on Easter Sunday at St. John The Baptist! I extend a special welcome to all our visitors and guests today we are delighted that you have joined us for the celebration. You are welcome anytime! The seven weeks of the Easter Season gives us an opportunity to reflect on the Easter message: God raised Jesus. Repent. Be baptized for the forgiveness of sins. Receive the Holy Spirit. This is the message of the first disciples as we follow the story of the Church s growth in the first century after the Resurrection of Jesus. Please come and join us as the story unfolds. Fr. John P.S. A special thanks to everyone who participated in and who planned and helped with our Holy Week services. You were wonderful and I am really happy for the number of people who came and for all the ministers, choir, decorators, servers, sacristans etc., and for Scott Dedlow, who worked really hard to pull it all together. Dive deeper into the Mass with the upcoming three part Adult Formation series Through the Right of Christian Initiation (RCIA) process, adults who wish to become members of the Catholic Church are brought into the fullness of Christian life. We welcome and congratulate the following members of our parish who were received into full communion with the Catholic Church by Rev. John Schreiter during the Easter Vigil Mass. Cassidy Boldt and Ryan Young May Cassidy and Ryan receive God s Grace and many Blessings as they continue their journey of faith in the Catholic Church. On On the kiosk in the church vestibule you will find many wonderful books, DVDs, CDs, and brochures that address many facets of the Catholic Faith. Please take a moment to look through these wonderful resources. Audio CDs $3.00 Booklets $2.00 Did you know that Mass is the greatest gift God gives us? Rather than asking "why do we go to Mass", we should ask ourselves "is God worth it"? Is taking one hour a week to worship God worth it? Is having an hour set aside to let God love us, while we try to love him, worth it? We should not see the Mass merely as an obligation but more as an opportunity not to be missed. Join us on Wednesdays to deepen our understanding of God's love. The Altaration Series will be offered in church on May 17th, 24th, and 31st at 9:00 a.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. Each hour and a half long class will incorporate both videos and discussion. Please visit the SJB website by May 10th to sign up for one of the two time slots. All are welcome to experience this free of charge series! St. John the Baptist Parish Parish Trustee Nominations are Now Being Accepted! Nomination forms are available in the back of church and must be returned to the parish office no later than April 17. The parish trustee election is scheduled before and after all Masses the weekend of May 6 and 7, 2017.

St. John the Baptist Plymouth April 16, 2017 Teaching children about Lent/Easter can be challenging as compared to teaching children about Advent/Christmas. It s important to be aware of what is age-appropriate for children and be conscious of each child s particular sensitivities and level of understanding. However, the joy of Easter can t be fully experienced without some knowledge of what happened on Good Friday. Teaching children that we need to look beyond ourselves and our needs is also a valuable lesson. During Lent the teachers have taught and have modeled the importance of serving others. One service activity that the school participated in was for Pennies for Patients. Money donated for this organization assists families affected by childhood cancer. Thank you to Student Council for heading up this service project. By participating in service projects such as Pennies for Patients, students are able to experience and share in the full joy of Easter. In Pope Francis Lenten message for 2017, he encourages us to find the gifts in others and to recognize their value. At St. John the Baptist School, we work hard to teach lessons focusing on loving one another. The teachers and staff encourage the students to accept and embrace others and their differences. These type of lessons help students to better see how accepting and loving Jesus is and that He died for our sins. Most importantly, attending Mass and participating in Holy Week activities gave the children the experience of walking in the footsteps of Jesus. May the day that God has resurrected bring you delightful joy and love! Easter Blessings, Amy Nelson Principal Special Cemetery Reminder Easter decorations at St. John the Baptist Cemetery may remain in place through Sunday, April 30.
