Fourth Sunday of Easter May 7, 2017 Dear Friends, One of the happiest times of my week is celebrating the Children s Mass on Tuesday at St. John the Baptist. I love being with the kids and it gives me an opportunity to talk with them on their level. Last Tuesday the first scripture was about the stoning of St. Stephen so I brought a big rock to church and asked them if it would hurt if they got hit with it. Then I transitioned to how we hurt each other when we throw hurtful words at each other. The kids provided examples. We ended up by deciding that Tuesday would be No Hurt Tuesday. We adults need to remind ourselves that words can hurt us, too. Repeating gossip or taking a jab at someone, referring to someone with a uncomplimentary adjective or pointing out someone s weakness can inflict as much pain as a stoning. Let s be kind to each other! Fr. John IT S OFFICIAL! Father Phil has been appointed shared Pastor of St. John the Baptist and St. Thomas Aquinas Parishes, effective Tuesday, June 20th. Seven more weeks of Fr. John and Turk! World Day of Prayer for Vocations ~ May 7 Lord Jesus, we pray to you for the Catholic priesthood. Give us more priests, but most especially we ask you to give us holy priests. Messengers of a truth that is all-encompassing and eternal, holy priests who know how to offer this truth to the people of their own time and place. Holy men for today, priests firmly rooted in the tradition, yet imbued with the spirit of this age. They have undertaken a mission in your name, Lord. May the reflection of your power in them always make it clear that they are your witnesses. St John the Baptist is thankful to have received a memorial gift to the youth faith formation program in memory of Mary Cary. "I planted the seed in your hearts, and Apollos watered it, but it was God who made it grow." 1 Corinthians 3:6 May Mary know the joy and peace of Heaven. You are invited to a May Crowning. On Tuesday, May 9th St. John the Baptist School children will crown Mary while the second graders honor Mary with flowers.
