2 Greetings from the East, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and indeed there are a lot of reasons to be thankful. To all the Brothers and Sisters who have supported our Lodge s endeavors this year with their time, talents and treasures, I thank you all. Congratulations to our newly raised Master Masons: Brother Mitchell and Brother Bouscal. We still have two more brothers to raise to the sublime degree of Master Mason this November, and we hope that you will join and support our lodge during their conferrals. As we honor our Veterans on November 11 th 2016, please join us on our Military Night which will be a 3 rd Degree Conferral and Table Lodge Event. On Nov. 18 th at 6 pm please join us as we honor Worshipful Brother George Melious, who is our 2016 Hiram Award Recipient. I hope that you will join us on our November 4 th Stated Meeting as we elect the new Master and Wardens and the Treasurer and Secretary for the ensuing Masonic Year of I have the pleasure of serving as Master of our Lodge this year and I am thrilled to pass the torch on to our Sr. Warden. 3 From the West: Veteran s Day This month, we observe Veterans Day, honoring all members of the US Armed Forces. Originally designated to commemorate the end of World War I, now this is an annual event to honor all veterans of all branches of the American Armed Forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine. All these men and women have given of themselves in many ways, some giving the ultimate sacrifice. Therefore, it is proper to honor them all. If you see a service man or woman, let them know you appreciate their service. As a former serviceman myself, let me be one of the first to say thank you to all of them. Since there are so many Veterans in the Lodge, we need to express our gratitude for their services, dedication and patriotism to our Country. In addition, let us seek the blessings of the Great Architect of the Universe to protect the members of our Armed Forces as they are protecting us, whether so ever dispersed around the globe they may be serving. May the Divine Being bring them back home and out of harm s way to their families and friends. As observance of Veterans Day, we are going to have a Military appreciation night on the 11 th of Nov where Bro Kevin Paragas will be raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Thanksgiving Day As Thanksgiving Day approaches, we, as Masons, have so much for which to be grateful. Thanksgiving Day feast is most accepted and accompanied by a home atmosphere. This is the time the family get together in the dining room appreciative to God for all their graces, offering their prayers of gratitude to the Supreme Being. We hope that all of your prayers will be fulfilled and we give humble thanks for God s many blessings. This is the most opportune time to take at your Thanksgiving table, to pause and reflect on the many, many things for which we can all be truly thankful for the many blessings we enjoy with our families and with our friends, and with our extended Masonic family. On behalf of my wife, Sis Angie, and myself, we hope that you and those you hold dear enjoy Veteran s Day and Thanksgiving Day. May God continue to bless our great fraternity and God Bless America! A HAPPY MOSONIC OUTREACH STORY The Many Hands of Masonic Relief: Jack and Kathy* have been married 71 years. He is 92. She is 93. They have traveled the world, have raised two children, and have grown old together. And then last year, in an unexpected turn of events, they learned that they had to vacate their home of 14 years. Neither could manage the physical demands of moving on their own. And even once they were out, they had nowhere to go. They didn t have the financial means to afford a care facility. They had no family nearby to lean on. All that they had was Jack s lodge. With growing panic, Jack turned to his Masonic brothers. There is a growing effort among California lodges to increase member outreach, and to partner with Masonic Assistance when a widow or brother needs help. Because of it, Consuelo Lodge No. 325 knew right away to call Masonic Outreach Services (MOS). Lodge brothers and MOS worked together to help Jack and Kathy turn in their application for support services, and with it, secure financial aid for an assisted living facility. As it happens, a Consuelo brother works at just such a facility located close to the lodge, and even with a few other Masons in residence. Jack and Kathy happily chose to move there. In an outpouring of support, and with just days left to pull together a team, the lodge rallied a dozen brothers to move all of their belongings. Tom Handell is the Consuelo Lodge brother who works at Jack and Kathy s new residence. Throughout the transition, he has worked closely with MOS to ensure the couple s safe move and continued support. Now, he witnesses the successful results every day. Both Jack and Kathy have gained some desperately needed weight. At last, their medications are being managed properly. They are thriving in their new community. They are happy as they can be here, Handell says. It was such a good move for them. It gives you a really good feeling, knowing you made a real difference in someone s life. Part of our Masonic obligation is to help our brothers and our widows, he says. It s our obligation as a Mason, yes. But more than that, it s our duty as a human being. Tracy Reynolds was among the Consuelo Lodge brothers who pitched in on moving day. Many of our members have done so much to help others when they had the means to do so, he says. If we all consider the many people that have helped us in our life adventure people that we cannot pay back there arises an opportunity to pay it forward through outreach and relief. When life experiences might produce huge obstacles, Reynolds says, many hands will make light work. *Names and identifying details have been changed to protect privacy.
