This spring we welcomed several new members, Joey Acorda, Patricio De Guzman, Narciso Nitafan and Jose Rivera to our council and our order. Welcome Brothers! Sonny R. Santa Ines our State Warden and Membership Director extends his gratitude and congratulations to Council 6004 for bringing in 4 new Brother Knights at our April exemplification ceremony. The council now has more Catholic men growing in faith together and supporting our Church, families and community. As we re pushing toward the end of this Columbian year, membership is still the main concern. Make sure to ask a Catholic friend or family member if they would be interested in joining the Knights. I know I ve been harping about this for months, but getting the new members is only half the battle. Finding dedicated hardworking men and keeping them interested and involved is the hardest part. We all have our roles in this organization. However, some of our hardest workers are the wives and family members. I love the fraternal and family oriented nature of the Knights serving the church and community. Let s all help to keep it going by inviting more people like yourselves. Brothers, please be reminded that May is a very special month when we honor Mary, the Mother of Jesus. We should say our daily prayers to Mary and honor her in our homes. We should also honor our own mothers and wife s and should make their day a special one. Make sure to thank them for all the support and love that they give us daily. Remember next month is our election of officers, we need men to step up with their time and great ideas to keep the council going in the right direction. If you are interested in running for council office, please contact our Nominating Committee. In closing, we still have members with dues to pay. We need all of you to chip in to make the council a success! Contact Brother Rudy Calagday if you are in arrears. Even if you can t attend our meetings or help at our

2 events, you can help by paying your membership dues. The funds ensure the Council has money to maintain operations and to fund the many ways that the Council helps at Holy Family Catholic Church. All third degree members in good standing (annual dues paid in full) are qualified to be a candidate for any position. In accordance with the By-Laws of the organization, the following brothers were chosen by the election committee, composed of past grand knights, as candidates for the various positions. Manalo Kenneth D. Morris It should be understood the above list is a non-binding recommendation by the committee. The Council By-Laws provide that any active third degree member of the council could vote and be voted to any position in the council. The order s established protocol must be strictly observed during this process. Only members present may be elected unless with prior approval by the election committee. That means, to be an additional candidate, a motion must be made and seconded and properly acknowledged by the chair. Voting must be in writing by secret ballot. The candidate who gets the most votes automatically wins. 3

4 KNIGHTS IN ACTION Saturday, May 5, Fourth Knights from JFK and St. Linus councils served as color guards during the confirmation and mass celebration by his Eminence, Bishop Alexander Salazar. Sunday, April 18, First degree exemplification held at the St. Joseph Hall was very successful. Four new members were formally accepted into our council. With these new members we now have met the annual goal for new members. Saturday, April 20, Family Night at the St. Joseph Hall. The second such night that the Council sponsored this Columbian year. It is as well as successful as the previous event. May 17 to 19, Our Council was ably represented in the annual State Convention in San Diego by our Worthy PGK, PDD and Color Corps Commander SK Ed Manila and Worthy Treasurer, SK Raymond Mangahas. Catholic Facts and General Knowledge Catholic Belief I. To gain the happiness of heaven we must know, love, and serve God in this world. Man must know, love and serve God in a supernatural manner in order to gain happiness of heaven. Man is raised to the supernatural order only by grace, a free gift of God. II. We learn to know, love, and serve God from Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who teaches us through the Catholic Church. III. In order to be saved, all persons who have attained the use of reason must believe explicitly that God exist and that he rewards the good and punishes the wicked; in practice they must also believe in the mysteries of the Blessed Trinity and the Incarnation. IV. By the Blessed Trinity we mean one and the same God in three divine persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. V. By the Incarnation is meant that the Son of God, retaining His divine nature, took to Himself a human nature, that is, a body and soul like ours. VI. The Church is the congregation of all baptized persons united in the same true faith, the same sacrifice, and the same sacraments, under the authority of the Sovereign Pontiff and the bishops in communion with him. VII. We find the chief truths taught by Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church in the Apostles' Creed. 4

5 The Commandments Besides believing what God has revealed, we must keep His law. The Two Great Commandments that contain the whole law of God are: You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole mind, and with your whole strength; you shall love your neighbor as yourself. To love God, our neighbor, and ourselves, we must keep the commandments of God and of the Church, and perform the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The Ten Commandments of God I. I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me. II. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. III. Remember to keep holy the Lord's day IV. Honor your father and your mother. V. You shall not kill. VI. You shall not commit adultery. VII. You shall not steal. VIII. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. IX. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. X. You shall not covet you neighbor's goods. The Chief Commandments or Laws, of the Church I. To assist at Mass on all Sundays and holy days of obligation. II. III. IV. To fast and abstain on the days appointed. To confess our sins at least once a year. To receive Holy Communion during the Easter time. V. To contribute to the support of the Church. VI. To observe the laws of the Church concerning marriage. The Supreme has a form that may be of interest to our economically/physically handicapped members. Application for relief from payment of Council dues and Supreme and State Council per Capita taxes is available from your financial secretary.
