2 FROM THE EAST: Another year has come and gone. Finally, this is my last trestle board article as Master of Silver Gate-Three Stars Lodge No My journey has come to an end after many years serving as an officer of this lodge, from being a steward all the way to the oriental chair. My next role now is to support the lodge and our new officers. Together, we have accomplished a lot of things this year, from conferring degrees to good fellowships during Masonic events. We have also made a lot of improvements and upgrades to our facilities with the help our Masonic Hall Association. Many repairs have been completed, but still more will need to be done in the future as part of the regular maintenance of the lodge. My theme throughout the year was harmony among brothers as my salutation suggests each time I wrote you an . I tried to accommodate everyone, but if I have offended anyone, I apologize. To the Past Masters and District Inspector, Worshipful Gil Magdaluyo, I thank you for your guidance and good counsel throughout the many delicate matters we have faced. To my friend Master-Elect, Bro Jerry Fabula, I wish you the best. I have all the confidence in your ability because you have great patience and perseverance. You have my full support. And to the officers and members, as well as, the sisters who are always in attendance, I thank you. Fe and I have made so many friends we will forever cherish, and we could not have accomplished our goals without your support and cooperation. I wish you and your family a blessed holiday season filled with joy and love. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone!!! 3 FROM THE SOUTH: My brothers, what an electrifying start of 365 days as a Junior Warden. I can not believe this is my last month. The year has gone so quick! I am excited! It was a great and pleasant journey. It has been one of the most exciting phases of my Masonic journey. I have developed myself personally and professionally because of your support, encouragement, and cooperation. I personally wish to thank Bro. Amado Supnet & Bro. Ray Cruz, who supported me right from day one through my term, who gave me the opportunity to excel and provided me the confidence to stay on. The kitchen is not only a place of good food but knowledge and great people as well. A few other people to thank, WB Jose Daño for those Wednesday officers practice, DOSI and lodge meetings, you re always there to fill the mouth. Bro s. Enrile, Camerino, Zuñiga and Bro. Titiangco, your fast service and prompt clean-up during stated meetings will never be surpassed. My hat goes off to you. And finally, I would like to express my appreciation for excellent leadership and brothers I interacted with during my term (lodge and hall). 5 Ref.: The Lodge Manual The Worshipful Master's responsibilities and obligations DUTIES OF THE WORSHIPFUL MASTER The following is a list of the powers and duties of the Master of the Lodge as outlined by the California Masonic Code. Powers (CMC Section 25130) The Master shall have power to: 1. Congregate his Lodge whenever he deems it proper; 2. Issue, or cause to be issued, all summonses or notices which may be required; 3. Discharge all the executive functions of his Lodge; and 4. Perform all acts, by ancient usage proper to his office, which are not prohibited by the Constitution or Ordinances of Grand Lodge. Duties 1. Preside at all meetings of the Lodge; 2. Confer or have conferred all degrees in strict accordance with the ritual which has been, or may hereafter be, approved by Grand Lodge; 3. Give, or have given, in full, the lectures appertaining to each degree, at the time it is conferred, in accordance with the ritual; 4. Appoint those officers as provided for in the By-laws; 5. Appoint an Auditing Committee and a Committee on Delinquent Members at the Stated Meeting next succeeding his installation; 6. Appoint a chairman to coordinate with the Grand Lodge Committees on Public Schools, United States Constitution Observance, Masonic Education and the Masonic Homes Endowment Board; 7. Attest at each Stated Meeting of his Lodge all minutes or records of proceedings as approved at such meetings by the Lodge; 8. Superintend the official acts of all the officers of his Lodge and to see that their respective duties are properly discharged; 9. Carefully guard against any infraction, by the members of his Lodge, of its own By-laws, of the Constitution or Ordinances of Grand Lodge, or of the General Regulations of Masonry; 10. To prepare the Lodge's Annual Plan; 11. To prepare the Lodge's Annual Budget; 12. To prepare the Master's Trestleboard articles; 13. To appoint the Investigating Committee brethren as required; 14. To be responsible for all Lodge committees; 15. To attend Grand Lodge and vote the Lodge's recommendations on the resolutions; and 16. To prepare an agenda for each Stated Meeting. Ritual 1. To attend the District Officers' Association Meetings (CMC Section 4020-C); 2. To be qualified to give the work and lectures of the First, Second and Third Degrees; and to be thoroughly proficient in those portions of the Constitution and Regulations of the Grand Lodge which relate to the government of a Lodge; 3. To learn the ritual for conducting Stated Meetings; 4. To learn the ritual for receiving Grand Lodge representatives (Inspector, Grand Master, etc.); 5. To learn the ritual for receiving and retiring the Flag of our country; 6. To learn the ritual for receiving the candidate after he has received the Third Degree; 7. To learn the funeral ritual and to conduct funerals; 8. To conduct degree practices for officers of the Lodge; and 9. To notify the Secretary of the date of initiation for newly elected candidates at least three weeks prior to his initiation.

Masonic Senior Outreach offers assistance with the services and resources needed to stay healthy and safe at home or in a retirement facility in the home community. Masonic Homes of California are continuing care retirement communities that offer a vibrant lifestyle and provide multiple levels of care for residents at the Union City campus and the Covina campus in Southern California. Masonic Family Outreach support services are available to California Masons and their families who need help dealing with challenges that they may face today such as divorce, the stresses of special needs children and other significant life challenges such as the impact of bad economic times. In future Trestle boards we will focus on each of these branches and explain how a brother in need may find assistance through our lodge, as well as, Masonic Outreach Services. ENRICHING HISTORY Thomas Starr King and Earl Warren: Thomas Starr King and Earl Warren were two extraordinary California Masons whose visions and actions had a lasting impact on Freemasonry, our state, our nation, and humankind. A Unitarian minister, Starr King used his pulpit to raise public awareness of vitally important issues like eradicating slavery and supporting Union troops in the Civil War. As Supreme Court chief justice and California governor, Earl Warren applied his influence to profoundly transform the lives of our country s marginalized and vulnerable citizens, curbing racism and championing equality.
