1 Joplin Church of the Nazarene District HIGHLIGHTS Dear Joplin District Family: Summer During the past 13 years, I have written articles for the Highlights and they have come with relative ease...but how do you tell someone you love so much, Goodbye? While it is difficult, it is also with a sense of joy... Joy for the journey and ministry we have shared together Joy for the friendships... Joy for the multitude of times we have experienced and witnessed God's faithfulness... Joy for the many hours we have prayed together and for each other Joy because the steps that Susan and I are taking are ordered of The Lord Joy for the excitement of a new day... Joy filled with the anticipation of the church continuing to be the church and many lost and broken people coming to know Jesus as their Savior Joy of catching a renewed vision and dream and seeing them fulfilled as our DS Pastor Mark Bane seeks God's heart and leads us... Joy of being able to continue to follow the Lord's leading in our hearts and lives and churches Joy because while I will no longer be your District Superintendent, we will always be in ministry together as long as God gives us breath and we will always be friends. So let me close by saying Thank You!! Thank you for loving us and caring for us and for being so very generous to us...the gift of $13,00 given at Assembly caught me and Susan totally off guard. The beautiful reception and many cards will be cherished memories forever. You are so kind. So as you read this last article for the Highlights...let me leave you with this: Please know that you are loved and appreciated. 2 A WORD FROM THE NEW DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT Joplin District members and friends, Greetings from the Atlanta area. Cheryl and I are excited and humbled by your amazing affirmation and God s clear leading. I believe He is up to something great as we come to serve with you for the advancement of His kingdom on this exceptional district. We serve an awesome God. Joplin is a district with a terrific heritage and a wonderful retiring DS. I have already grown to love you and am praying for each pastor and church daily. I pray that each church will sense God's blessing, power and presence as we work together in His harvest field. May He meet the needs in your life today through His wonderful riches in glory! I am grateful to Dr. Dillow and his visionary leadership. I am extremely excited to join you in seeing the mission accomplished. Planting 70 new churches in the next 10 years will not be easy, however with the leadership of the Holy Spirit, the faithfulness of our great pastors and the support of the godly laity of the district, I believe it can and will be done. Why is this vision so exciting to me? It fits into our mission: Our Biblical mission is to Make Christlike disciples in the nations. There are thousands of lost souls on our mission area ministry and we can make a difference. It makes sense: C Peter Wagner said, A categorical statement that will seem bold and brash to some at first sight, even though it has been well substantiated by research over the past two or three decades: The single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches. The most Biblical and effective method of making Christlike disciples is planting churches. Planting churches was the method God used through Paul and others in the New Testament to advance the Kingdom. It has worked in the past: I am a product of a church planting pastor. In fact, every one of us who attend a church is, in some way, a product of a church planting pastor. God has a dream: II Peter 3:9 says, The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. We are His hope to accomplish it. You have been dreaming: I watched the video of last year s District Assembly as many of you committed to planting a church. I can t wait to partner with you and your vision to see these dreams become a reality. I encourage you to commit to joining me in praying 10 minutes each day through the month of June for God s direction and power as we work on a plan to depopulate hell in our mission area in the coming years. Cheryl and I are eager to meet and get acquainted with all of you and for you to get to know us as well. Excited to serve alongside you!
