1 Rev. Mark Bane District Superintendent Joplin Church of the Nazarene District HIGHLIGHTS Summer Here are some of the highlights from the District Superintendent s Report given at Assembly: Our pastors are the best, our people are the greatest and our territory is the most beautiful. We have resources! I believe it is time to take the great resources God has given us and engage those resources towards the Great vision God has for us, Making Christ-like Disciples. I have been asking God through prayer and fasting this year, what do you dream for us? Let me share a few of the visions with you using the five mission strategies developed by a conference of Godly Pastors and leaders from USA and Canada in Here are my dreams; Intentional leadership development: I believe there are leaders in every church on our district. We simply need to begin looking for them to discover them. I challenge every pastor to develop a culture of duplication in your local churches. Look for leaders to raise up. I believe they are all around us, they just haven t been discovered yet. My prayer and vision is that every pastor will raise up at least one leader who God could use to multiply your ministry every year. Vibrant Church renewal: I believe that every church on the Joplin District can be vibrant and capable of growing and multiplying. We have seen examples of it across the district. I believe God will help us to develop a renewal program for plateaued or declining churches until they are all growing. It was Jesus who said, I will build My Church. It is still His church. We are planning to select 5-6 churches this year to begin a revitalization program to bring life and vibrancy to those who might be discouraged and lost hope. As we develop the program I think we could revitalize 5 churches every year. Clear and coherent Theological identity: We have the greatest message under Heaven. The power of God to make us victorious is greater than the power of the enemy to make us fail. It was the message that attracted me to the Church some 38 years ago. It will attract a world that has lost hope in a God with this kind of power. The truth is the enemy has convinced us that people don t want to make full commitments any more. I believe truly converted people have no problem making deep commitments and keeping them. Jesus said, If you love me you will keep my commandments. John said, His commands are not burdensome. I challenge us to have 500 professions of faith next year. The highest number we have ever had in one year in our history was 461. My prayer is that every church will have at least one profession of faith next year. Passionate missional outreach: I believe every church could have an event at least one time a year where you could reach four times your regular weekly attendance. I remember when we had Sunday School promotions? The goal was to get new people into the life of the church twice a year. The rest of the year would be spent following up on and discipling those who we touched at those events. We don t do those any more but the principle still works. New Church development: This strategy is working all across the world and here on the Joplin District as well. God has helped me to embrace the vision of my predecessor Dr. Dillow and the group of pastors who attended our denominations first DCPI event in Dallas, to double the amount of churches on the Joplin District. As I prayed God made it clear to me that we would need Him if we attempted to do this in five years. We are well on our way to that goal. Our district has now planted 20 new churches. I believe we could organize 10 each year. I believe every church should either plant or partner in a church plant every 3-5 years. It is happening! God is moving in ways we might have only dreamed He would before. I get calls almost weekly that a new church has been planted! Join me this year as we make this year a year of engagement, as we the Joplin District Ministry Team come together with the leading of the Spirit and the resources we have been given to take our territory for God. Respectfully submitted. Mark J Bane, District Superintendent, Joplin District

3 Nazarene Missions International President, Rhonda Rhoades 258 Park Rd., Garnett, KS June Emphasis: World Mission Broadcast The Annual World Mission Broadcast offering provides resources to reach millions around the world for Christ via broadcast media, especially radio. This offering provides funding for program production, airtime, and follow-up materials. Your participation is needed to reach the unreached people of the world through this valuable tool. Contributions are welcome at any time. Make your check payable to General Treasurer and mark it World Mission Broadcast. Mail it to: Global Treasury Service, Church of the Nazarene PO Box Kansas City, MO July Emphasis: International Ministries The NMI International Student Scholarship Fund (ISSF) assists students in need who attend campus-based Nazarene theological schools in world mission regions, so their education can be completed as debt-free as possible. All local presidents were given a box of 52 cards, one for each of our schools in the world mission regions. NOW is the time to start using those cards to education and inform them members of your congregations. Feature one school each week in your bulletin, or weekly update. Request prayer for the week for that particular school. Be creative in your use of the cards, but encourage your people to pray for those students in the process of becoming ministry partners for Christ and the Church of the Nazarene. See pg. 40 in the Resource notebook for offering information.
