Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you ll recover your life. I ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. FROM YOUR PASTORAL PRESBYTER. I believe that one of my favorite passages from The Message is Matthew 11: It talks about how we can come to Jesus and rest from all the demands of this world. My favorite part of this passage is Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. One reason this is so appealing to me is because it makes me think. What would it be like to live in the unforced rhythms of grace? What exactly are the unforced rhythms of grace? Would I know what they are if I saw them? Resting in God is one of those things that sometimes gets elusive in life. I know plenty of people, myself included at times, whose lives are so packed with activities that they do not have time to even think about those unforced rhythms of grace, much less learn them. Yet, we are reminded by Jesus to come to him when we are tired. To get away with him and recover our lives. If you are tired and worn out, I would encourage you to take some time to rest and to get away with Jesus and learn from him some of those unforced rhythms of grace so your soul will be refreshed and ready for whatever life brings. Please pray for Mike Galer and Krista, his employee, victims of the shooting at Lockwood. Krista has been dismissed from the hospital and is at home recovering. Mike's injury was much more serious and he is facing paralysis and extensive rehab in Denver. Mike Galer s wife is the organist at First Presbyterian Church of Lockwood, Missouri. She continues to recuperate at home in Olathe, rebuilding strength for lung surgery which may come in the next months. If you are staying for lunch please RSVP by Tuesday before Presbytery Day to: pastoralpresbyter@gmail.com Each participant will be required to read the training manual before attending the training and then participate in case study discussions at the group meeting. To host a Presbytery Day at your church we need to have internet access, a small space to meet with people who might want to visit and publicity, so to speak, that will inform those in the area that we will be there. We could also have a time of sharing God's work in the churches, some time during our time there. 4 You are invited to join First Presbyterian Church of Joplin for our annual Fall Festival at ShoalKirk Camp on Sunday, October 23rd from 4:00-6:00 p.m. There will be autumn themed games for children, a hayride through the woods, and a potluck dinner. Pulpit Supply is$100 with the understanding that is only if one (1) service is prepared. It was approved by Committee on Ministry that if two (2) services are required the honorarium would be $150. If overnight lodging is required, motel and meals should be provided at the church s expense. Honorarium for moderating session is $50 plus IRS approved mileage rate per vouchered mile. PAGE 5
