Good Friday, check. Easter Sunrise, check. Feast of the Resurrection, check. Time for pastoral revelry! Shenanigans on the part of this R-E-V. It is always tempting to ask the family what they thought of Easter Services at the end of the day when all is said and done I once heard a story of caution about a pastor fresh out of seminary who asked that very question to his Aunt Edna, a woman of few words to put it nicely blunt to put it honestly. Aunt Edna, what did you think of the sermon? the young pastor asked. It was great, she replied. So was the second one and the third and the fourth. Didn t they teach you the word, Amen at seminary? she asked. Some pastors just don t know when the sermon should end. They act as if it should go on and on forever. Not me (I say with a little tongue in cheek). I know when the sermon should end. I know when it is time for me to cease to proclaim the Word of God Following Palm Sunday? No. Maundy Thursday? Not quite yet. Maybe Good Friday? Nope. Easter Sunrise? No Sir. Feast of the Resurrection? Still a no. It would be tempting to think that following the end of the greatest festival of the church year, after the choirs have sung Alleluia, after the horns have proclaimed the greatness of God, after the congregation has proclaimed and believed, He is Risen, He is Risen Indeed, Alleluia! it should be time for things to wind down to rest on the Good News that Easter brings. But it is not. Now is the time when we should be most active. We have heard the Good News. In Christ the powers of sin, death and the devil have been defeated. Satan has no power over us. We are free to live for Christ alone. But so often we stand on the ground flat footed, jaws dropped, eyes open on account of God s love for us, but asking, What now? It s as if someone said Amen in the middle of the story. The Resurrection is really supposed to be more like the sound of a gun that signifies the start of a race. So long as Christ is alive the message of his love has no end. I suppose I shall have to postpone my pastoral revelry indefinitely no shenanigans for me. I have a race to run, a Word to proclaim, a love to enjoy forever. On your Mark, get set go! Join me in the journey! E S

2 Update from the Future Needs Committee. The Future Needs Committee (FNC) continues to meet regularly on Saturday mornings. The following request was made to Church Council from our April 22 meeting: Discussion to engage LCEF to present in conjunction with VisionPath, their Capital Immeasurably More Capital Campaign offering. This offering is part of the LCEF Capital Funding Services (CFS). Committing to this offering will reduce the cost of VisionPath by 50%. From the Christian Education... VBS will be here in 2 months! Mark your calendars: July 8! Look for volunteer signup sheets later this month. More information will be available as we get closer. As always, we appreciate your support! A tentative one hour planning session meeting via conference call with Concordia Leadership will take place on Wednesday evening, May 17. Other planning meetings will occur from this initial discussion. This event takes many volunteers from setup to serving to cleanup to food and beverage donations. The generosity and hard work of all those involved is greatly appreciated! 4 SAVE THE DATE Concordia Lutheran Church 50 th Anniversary Celebration Service Sunday, October 22, 2017, 11 O clock a.m. Concordia will be celebrating its 50 th anniversary this year along with the 500 th anniversary of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. We are in the planning stages of making this a great day and year of celebrating our existence of worshiping and serving our wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ here at Concordia. Our visiting speaker for the special service will be Rev. Dr. Gerald B. Kieschnick. Dr. Kieschnick is CEO of the Lutheran Foundation of Texas and past president of LCMS, Texas District as well as LCMS and was named its President Emeritus. Our budget for this great celebration will be approximately $3, and we are now asking for donations to make this happen. We will be responsible for Dr. Kieschnick s lodging, food and gas. I am in the process of putting together some fund raisers to help with the cost of our celebration. If you would like to make a donation for any part of this celebration, please earmark you check 50 th Anniversary or Dr. Kieschnick. The first thing I would like to do is make available some of our great What s Cookin At Concordia cookbooks that were published in As you all know, some of the best recipes ever are in church cookbooks. You will recognize some names of folks that submitted recipes. One of our charter members, Mrs. Hilda Graham has some recipes in there as well as other members. The artwork was done by Rev. Dr. Roger Grummer and Mr. Richard Hlad. I will have them for you for a donation on Sundays in May if you would like to add one to your collection. I will accept a check or cash donation for each book. It will be on a first come basis until they are gone. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, May 2 at 7 p.m. and anyone is invited to attend.
