1 CALVARY CALLER June 2018 Church Office Office hours 10:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Council Commentary The focus of this month s Council meeting was on preparing for the events that will take place over the next few months. These range from the upcoming pastoral call to strategic planning that stems from this call and the Shared Ministry Covenant with St. Paul. After months of work, we are ready to move forward into what God has next for Calvary. The final details are being considered for the pastoral call following a unanimous Council vote to move the process onto a final congregational vote on Sunday, June 3 rd. A joint meeting of the Executive Committees from CLC and St. Paul reached agreement on the defined compensation and benefits package to be offered to the candidate. This information was then passed onto the Synod and the pastoral candidate for review followed by presentation to each congregation as a part of the voting process. An ongoing meeting structure is also being finalized to nurture the relationship with St. Paul supporting our ministries with each other and our communities. Staff evaluations were recently conducted by the Executive Committee and reported to Council. Specific job descriptions for each position have been updated and reviewed with the employee for accuracy as part of this evaluation. Other issues discussed include support/resources need for their tasks as well as any concerns to be addressed. Finally, each employee was requested to consider opportunities to work with their colleague at St. Paul to increase impact and efficiency in their service to CLC. Finally, our annual Council retreat for incoming and outgoing Council members will be held on May 19 th at the Point Beach Lodge. A number of agenda items are being considered. These include: MSP review for insight into goal formation; ministry implications/opportunities stemming from the covenant with St. Paul; lay worship leadership empowerment and support; pastoral support through structured orientation and the mutual ministry program; and, of course, election of officers for Other ideas are certainly welcome please share with one of the Council members.

2 A Special Congregational Meeting We will meet on Sunday, June 3 rd after worship, to vote on the Joint Call Committee s recommendation regarding the candidate for pastor. This is it, Folks! If both congregations vote yes, we will have a new pastor. For the Call Process, especially for members of the Joint Call Committee Summer Youth Opportunities Calvary Youth Are Invited to Join in Crossways Summer Morning Camps and Day Camps at First Lutheran Church. Morning Camp is for children entering 4K, 5K, & 1 st grade in Fall Held from July 30 August 3, 2018, Monday Thursday 9am-Noon, with one evening program on Thursday, August 3 at 6pm to cap off the event. Day Camp is for students entering 2 nd - 7 th grades in Fall Held from July 30-August 3, 2018, Monday Thursday from 9am-Noon concluding with the evening program on Thursday, August 3 at 6pm. 4 Pentecost Geraniums The Geraniums around the worship space will be used to decorate our church grounds. They have been provided by the following: Joe & Bonny Bitto in Honor of sons Ben & Bryan Caroline Curtis in Honor of her grandchildren: Jesse, Sarah, & Alissa Diane Grasee in Memory of Lois Shanklin & Mike Grasee, and in Honor of her grandchildren. Bev Schmidt in Honor of her grandchildren Cindy Schmidt in Memory of Gary Schmidt Teri Wagner in Memory of Leah Hurst Jim & Lori Williams in Memory of Dani Williams ******************************************************** CHURCH RUMMAGE SALE FOR 2018!! Please note that this year the sale is in June, not July as in previous years. Calvary Rummage Sale will be held Friday, June 22 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and on Saturday June 23 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Rummage Sale will again be in the church basement. Proceeds will benefit the General Fund. This is a good excuse for house cleaning! We are in need of your gently used items to be donated for the sale. No clothing or shoes, please. We are accepting jewelry, purses and bags, and any other household, holiday, decorative items, candles, furniture, etc. Items should be clean and in working order. If the items are coming from another rummage sale, PLEASE REMOVE ALL PRICE TAGS!! If you are donating computer equipment, exercise equipment or TV s, please note that if they don t sell, you are responsible for picking them up after the sale because the Thrift Store may or may not accept these items. Items can be brought to the church starting Sunday, May 20 until the event. Please bring items down to the Fellowship Hall. The church is open weekdays from 10am to 2:30pm and on Sundays from 8:30 to about 11 am. We again will be selling baked goods at the sale. Donations for this will be gratefully appreciated! Cakes, cookies, bars, etc. will be accepted. (No heavily frosted cakes or bars please, as they are hard to wrap.) Workers are needed for the sale. The first stage is sorting through all of the items, setting up tables and organizing the items on tables. Workers are needed on the days of the sale and then a clean-up crew on Saturday after the sale ends at 3:00 pm to box up all the items that are left.
