1 Park Hill Christian Church NEWSLETTER July 1, 2018 On Sunday morning June 24 th Park Hill CC was spread far and wide. Oh, sure. Some of us were in the Sanctuary for worship. But others of us were in Purdin, Missouri saying goodbye to Pat. Still others of us were away at Tall Oaks for summer church camp. And on the information table in the narthex were three cards for dear folks who are unable to be present with us on Sunday mornings for various reasons. Note: Those cards will be out there for another Sunday or two. Feel free to sign them. Then they ll be delivered to the Meades, Frances Reinier, and Martha Mayo. ANNUAL FAN DRIVE July 8-12 When we gather on Sunday mornings, as Disciples of Christ the heart of our worship service is the Table of Christ. We remember that Jesus is the host of the Table, and so all who seek him are invited to come and share, no matter where they ve come from or how they ve arrived. And, since we celebrate the Table of Christ, we also remember the Table extends all around the world and even through time because the crucified and risen Jesus is Lord of all. The Table of Christ is not just present in our little room at about ten minutes till 10AM Central Standard Time. Jesus Table extends to Reykjavik, Iceland and Bujumbura, Burundi, to Sydney, Australia and Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The one Table of Christ extends all over because the one Lord Jesus Christ is the host everywhere and always. His love unites us to all sorts of people we have never even met. His love extends far beyond the walls surrounding the small, simple table in Park Hill CC s worship hall. Christ s love reaches people grieving in Purdin, Missouri and people camping in Linwood, Kansas. His love reaches into Frances Reinier s home. His love is even able to reach you. Right now. Right where you are. SPEAC Food Drive Let us come to the Table and feast upon the love of God that heals us and makes us new. Doris Stevenson s sister s son-in-law, Mike who is in a coma after a car accident. Walt Morris friend, Arlene who has major medical problems. Marilyn Connor s grandson, Chad Butler, who is recovering from a ruptured disc. Summer Church Camp at Tall Oaks is in full swing! Let s keep staff, directors, counselors and campers in our daily prayers! Junior 2 June 30-July 3 Madit Akoi and Nydit Akoi You just never know what great things can happen when playing in God's back yard! Thank you for all your prayers, cards, visits, and well wishes during my recent surgery and rehab stay. All was truly appreciated. It is good to be home, where I will continue the recovery process. 4 The Horst Family Jenny, Landon, Jackson, Alyssa, & Adam Merry Moments has a new Director! Hi parents! I just wanted to introduce myself to you and give you a little bit of background about my teaching experience. I grew up in the little, tiny town of Archie. I went to Ottawa University and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. There, I met my husband. After graduation, my husband accepted a position in Virginia. I taught 1st grade there for 4 years and we had our first son, Jackson. We wanted to be closer to family, so my husband started looking for a position closer to Kansas City. He accepted a position within his company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I taught 1st grade for 2 years in Oklahoma. While in Oklahoma we had our second son, Landon. He was born with quite a few respiratory issues, so I stayed at home with him. During that time off, we adopted our third child, Alyssa, from foster care. As a stay at home mom, I also started to pursue photography. I apprenticed under a fantastic photographer in Tulsa and took some online classes. Along with photography, I went back to teaching after 3 years and taught gifted students, then 1st grade. My husband and I always had the goal to move back to Kansas City to be closer to family. He accepted a position within his company in July 2016 to bring us to KC. We are enjoying being close to family! We fell in love with Merry Moments when our daughter attended the 2016/2017 school year. I accepted the position of teacher s assistant last year and enjoyed the time I was able to work with the great staff and our amazing students. I am looking forward to the coming year as I take the role of Director and continue working as a teacher s assistant; it s going to be fantastic! Our future is BRIGHT! Jenny HERO S SUMMER DAY CAMP Avenue of Life is providing a free HEROs summer day camp for kids in KCK this summer from 8:30am-2pm on W-F starting June 13. As kids learn more about math, English, crafting, games, managing emotions, and healthy thinking. They will be given some tasks that go "over and above" like work to do with their parents at home or leadership opportunities. They will receive reward "bucks" for many of these good choices. We'd like to offer them a "store" of incentives (small, inexpensive, fully-functional, undamaged, kid-oriented items) which they can "purchase" with their bucks. If you have any such incentive items that you could donate, please bring them to church for Mindy to pick up. Things like stickers, McDonald toys, small wrapped snacks, etc. work great. If you have any connections for gift cards for adults as incentives for their emotions and corrective thinking work in classes, I'd love to receive them. In addition, we are in need of gently used summer and school clothes for boys/teens and welcome girls apparel, also. Tennis shoes in children s and adult sizes are greatly needed. Donations should be labeled for Mindy or Avenue of Life. Thanks always for your thoughts, prayers, and generosity, Mindy MERRY MOMENTS is now enrolling for the fall preschool and Pre-K classes. We are sure you know someone who would love to spend the morning with any of our loving, devoted teachers. Tell your friends! 4

ANNUAL FAN DRIVE We will be collecting (20") box fans to donate to the Salvation Army for the distribution to the needy during the hot summer months. Fans can be purchased at Walmart, K Mart, Target, Lowe's and Home Depot. Usually priced in the $19 to $23 range. For anyone that can help we would like to gather all fans by July 1st. Thank you all for your ongoing support of our Outreach Ministry programs.
