2 Youth of Yesterday will meet for lunch at Meadowbrook Village on Wednesday, May 11. Coffee at 10:30 with lunch to follow. Dr. John Fesko a professor from Westminster Seminary will lead devotions while elementary students from Calvin Christian School will provide special music. Cost for lunch is $7 if you plan to attend please sign the sheet on the Information Counter in the foyer. FAREWELL OPEN HOUSE FOR DIRK J: Mark Friday, May 20, on your calendar! You are invited to come to the HS Library between 6:00 8:00 p.m. for a Farewell Open House for Dirk - there will be a short program at 7:00 p.m. Dirk Jasperse has faithfully taught Science for the past 32 years at CCS. Besides directing 24 different high school plays, Dirk has been very active in school and church life. Please join us as we say thank you and farewell to Dirk and Joy as they prepare to leave for their next adventure teaching in the Rosslyn Academy in Kenya. We praise God for hundreds and hundreds of adult leaders, board members and committee members and pastors, who have volunteered their time and talents for RYS since We thank our 80 faithful member churches for their prayerful and financial support, enabling RYS to provide retreats, conferences, conventions and lesson material for our covenant youth. We have been blessed to have served thousands of young people and post-high singles over the years. To God be the glory, great things He hath done! Based on I Corinthians 12, this year s RYS LOGOS singles conference will take place August at Green Lake Conference Center in Green Lake, WI, Lord willing. LOGOS 2016 will feature Rev. Greg Lubbers from Covenant URC in Byron Center, MI, who will speak on the theme, Are You Part of the Body? To register, visit reformedyouthservices.org. Online registration will open May 5 and close July 18. Cost is $ (U.S.) or $ if you wish to include Noah's Ark Waterpark. The trees in the parking lot were removed at the end of March and we are getting ready for grading, which may begin as soon as mid- May.

3 Beloved in the Lord Jesus Christ Hi, my name is Nathan. I m a Junior at Calvin Christian School and have been attending there since kindergarten. This April, after a long time of being afraid to take the first step, God made me willing and able to profess my faith. The Christian faith has been a central aspect of my life for as long as I can remember, presented to me at home, in church, in school, in Sunday school. All around me. I am so thankful that I have had the blessing of being brought up in a Christian home my whole life. I am very grateful to all of you, the congregation, for being so encouraging throughout the process of my profession and for guiding me along the right path, either directly or through example. Living as a Christian is not always an easy life, but being surrounded by such love in this congregation and being confident and comforted in God has made my journey full of joy. I owe everything to Christ for living a perfect life and dying a sacrificial death in my place. I look forward to further spiritual nourishment in the partaking of the Lord s Supper...Nathan I moved out to Escondido last summer in order to attend Westminster Seminary and teach at The Cambridge School near San Diego. As a born and raised Midwesterner, the weather and scenery of southern California have certainly been a welcome change! More than that, however, I have greatly enjoyed getting to know the community here at EURC. I ve grown up in solid Reformed churches, but this has been one of the most welcoming congregations and I appreciate the Christ-centered preaching, enthusiastic Psalm (and hymn) singing, and the rich teaching in Sunday School (as well as listening to the family-like banter). After my studies in theology this year, I hope to return to teaching full time in the Cambridge Elementary School, and look forward to contributing more to the church community here!.dara

4 The Promises of God We are to teach our little ones that they have been set apart by baptism as God s own children. I was born in Escondido and grew up at the Escondido URC. Erin was born in Hinsdale, IL and grew up at Grace Lutheran Church in Escondido. Erin and I met in 2000 through mutual friends and got married in 2002 at the Pala Mesa Resort. I became a member of Grace Lutheran Church and we attended there until 2010, when we moved to Crossroads CRC in San Marcos. Our first child, Gracie, was born in 2009 and is currently in kindergarten at Calvin Christian. She enjoys ballet, soccer, and drawing. McKenzie was born in 2011 and is in preschool at Calvin. She enjoys playing with Barbie's, gymnastics, and attempting her own makeup. Jameson was born in 2015 and was baptized on April 17. Currently, Erin is a stay-at-home mom and I am an electrician. We are excited to now be at the URC where we have lots of family and friends. We look forward to serving in the church and school and our children growing up in the Escondido URC family....jeff, Erin, Gracie, McKenzie, and Jameson Zachary Hans was born on January 6, It's been such a great joy to see Zachary grow. Zachary was baptized on March 20, 2016 and his baptism was such a great reminder to us of God's promises to His children. Thank you to our family, friends, and church community for the ongoing support, prayers, and love.

5 The annual Youth Group Spaghetti Dinner was a great success. As a member of the youth group, I am immensely thankful to everyone who showed up and contributed to our Convention Funding by coming out and enjoying the food. For me, Spaghetti Dinner is not only an opportunity to raise funds for RYS Convention, it s also one of my favorite youth group events of the year. I enjoy seeing the church come out to support youth group, uniting to make your meal the best possible. Although those who worked in the kitchen were constantly tempted by the delicious garlic bread and the many sweets, we were able to save just enough for our guests. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the youth group by enjoying a meal or bidding on one of the delectable desserts in the auction, we really appreciate it. 6 Jr. High Youth Group Friday, April 8 the Junior High Youth Group met in the elementary school. We did Minute -To-Win-It games like getting a cookie from your forehead to your mouth, blowing bubbles past a hoop, stacking cups, balancing sugar cubes on a popsicle stick, and a balloon game. Then we played a game where we chose an animal name, and someone who was it, in the middle of the circle tried to tag you before you called on someone else s animal name. After a snack, we ended with a lesson that taught us about God s love and why we must do good because of our gratefulness to God. It was great to be together and I had a blast!...jacob

7 Friday, May 6, the Cadets will be taking part in a group campout to Joshua Tree National Park campground. We will be departing from church after school at 3:15 pm. Friday and returning Saturday around 5:00 pm. Tents and meals will be provided by the Cadet club. Fathers are welcome to come along. Please bring the following items: Sleeping bag Flashlight Change of clothes Small amount of personal snacks (if desired). 8 June 15 Church Family Game Night July 20 Trivia Night August 17 Guest Speaker Night The Outreach and Fellowship Committees have again teamed up to bring back Summer Nights, three events to promote church fellowship and provide opportunities for outreach. Unplug and unwind with lawn games, a bounce house, board games, dinner (taco, nacho, & salad bar), ice cream, and more! Trivia Night Jul. 20 Enjoy a pizza potluck and compete as a team in a series of fun trivia questions in order to get the highly-sought-after EURC Trivia Night trophy (kiddos will have their own fun & games too!) Done Family Ties Style, this night will include dinner, singing, a guest speaker for the adults, and a Bible lesson, games, and crafts for the kids.
