2 MUSINGS FROM MIKE This past Sunday, a young man shared with our congregation how his faith began to come alive here with us and that his journey is leading him to explore music ministry in the United Methodist Church. In the last few months our youth ministry has built itself into a group of 10+ youth at Sunday night gatherings and they took the lead in leading worship and crafted a sermon to share with the congregation. On Change the World Sunday we deployed over 60 people working on projects to help and improve the Butler community, as well as working very personally with a family in need in our area. A group of almost 10 people shared a journey together through the whole Bible using the weekly Disciple Bible Study, and in the process forged important relationships with each other. If you hang around church for any length of time you will bump into someone working on a project or ministry that they have a deep and God-given passion about. You will bump into people having important and life-changing conversations with each other. Sometimes if you read things in the media like the recent Pew Report indicating that there is a continuing trust in and decline of religious communities. It becomes easy to focus on everything that is wrong and going wrong but the stories above challenge me, they challenge me to look deeper and to see God at work in us and through us. I just wanted you to know that all the time, effort, and giving that we all do to make Butler UMC happen is worth it. Lives are being changed for the better. Deep and living faith is being built in people and in our community. We are truly feeding people body and soul. Shalom, Pastor Mike June 15 page 2
