1 PERRY CHRISTIAN CHURCH NEWSLETTER THE CRIER FEBRUARY 2019 Does it seem to you that the months of January and February as they roll around each year, are kind of slow months? Doesn t it seem, somehow as if time just sort of stands still as the dreariness and cold of Northern Ohio winters ebb by slowly? Combined, the months contain either 59 or 60 days depending upon a leap year occurrence, and the truth of the matter would be that the months in duration are never quite as long, as June and July combined. So, whereas they seem slow -moving, and not quite up to speed with the other months somehow, they in fact, zoom by more quickly. What else is there in life that zooms by quickly? Name something, if you dare, that seems to move slower than molasses, but truthfully speeds by before you can recognize it s come and gone? How about you keeping the promise you ve been making your entire life, that has never quite come about because the opportunity to pursue it, has always seemed to have likewise, quickly come and gone? How about this year, now, deciding that your lip service, as well as your seated position service to God, is not cutting it any longer? There s nothing wrong with taking a back seat to God, but the figure of speech it references does not refer to your placement within the sanctuary on Sundays. My job is not to inform you if your service to God is adequate. My job is not, even, to define for you what your service to God should look like. My job more simply, is to encourage you to serve your God in the ways that please God. If you re unsure about what that would entail, I also encourage you to speak to God about it. If the month upcoming somehow looks slow to you, I d suggest you look at things again and try to look at it the way God does. I m as sure as I can be, that God sees a great deal of work that needs to be done. Anyone here want to join me in an inspiring game of generously doing something, for someone? 2 Page 2 Hope you re all revved up for the Perry $500 Fundraiser! Here s the details! We re in search of those young, old or in between who want to participate in a remote control car race here at the church on Saturday, February 23rd from 1:30-3:00 p.m. If you don t have a remote control car, don t let that stop you! We ll provide one for you to use. Those who are participating will be able to vote for 1 of 4 local charities to receive the proceeds of the day. The charities are: Project Hope for the Homeless, Forbes House, Great Day Foundation, and The Perry Center. There is no entry fee! It is our hope that those who participate and those who are spectators will give generously to the cause. We are in need of refreshments for the event and would ask the church to provide finger food and beverages. If you can come up with a finger food that has a racing theme that would be spectacular, but know that we ll take all donations! Pre-event volunteers are needed to publicize the race. That s as easy as telling your friends and family about it or distributing posters to local business. We also need people to register contestants, along with start and finish line officials, and of course those who just want an afternoon of fun! Get on track and ask Pastor how you can help!

6 Page 6 This month we ll gather to prepare the food for the Project Hope Saturday Side Dish on Thursday, February 14th at 6:00 p.m. The food will be delivered on Saturday, February 16th at 6:45 p.m. We need a volunteer to deliver the food on that day. Here s what is needed: 3 Loaves of French or Italian Bread not sliced, 1 lb. of sliced ham, 1 lb. of sliced salami, 1 lb. of sliced turkey, 2 lb. of sliced cheese, 1 tub of butter, and 2 small bags of shredded lettuce. The bank of love is never bankrupt. Steve Maraboli For the sack lunches we need: 3 cases of water bottles, 3 Bags of 20(or more) individual chips, 2 boxes of fruit/granola bars, 55 slices of ham, and 5 loaves of bread. Thanks for your generosity! Frankie Blanchard and Brenda Carr It s Your Birthday! will be hosting a birthday party on Saturday, February 16th from 1-3p at the church for 8-10 eight-year-old boys. If anyone would be interested in being a Power Ranger or helping with games for the party, please contact Carole Martin or me. If you know where we can borrow an outside sized Jenga game, please let me know. We are looking for games that we can play indoors to keep the boys interested; any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Jeray Bunnell The Camp Christian Summer 2019 Camp and Conference registration forms and information are now available through the Ohio Region s website. ( The church will also receive a packet of hard copies of the forms and information in the mail over the next week or so. It s going to be another wonderful Summer at Camp Christian!! We extend our sympathy to Russell Sines and his entire family on the passing of Emma Sines, on January 22, 2019.

7 Page 6 Thanks is so easy to say, but sometimes not used enough. I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the women of the CWM for the Christmas baskets they provided for the Seniors. Dear Pastor Paul and Congregation, We want to thank you for your gift of lunches and a side dish donated on November 11, 2018 and December 15, We appreciate the fruit donated in December as well as the gift of $ donated on December 17, As we enter the holiday season we couldn t be more thankful for God s grace, mercy and blessings shown through the support of our community. It is friends like you who have walked beside us to achieve the mission of restoring hope and renewing lives to those experiencing homelessness in Northeast Ohio. Together we have successfully transitioned 82% of the 471 individuals who have walked through our doors here at 25 Freedom Road during We pray you have received great blessings this year, just as you have been a blessing to those we serve. In Service, Judy Burr, Executive Director Project Hope for the Homeless Dear Perry Christian Church, I want to thank you for your unwavering support of Bethany Christian Mission Center. I am beginning my tenth year at Bethany and the mission is beginning 93 years of service to the people of this area! Without the help and support of you and many servants like you throughout these many years, along with the blessings of a loving God, we could not have made it! Your donations this past year did much more than help us meet day to day expenses. We were able to aid 10 students with tuition, expand our programs for students, host a festival to showcase the school, serve a community Thanksgiving dinner, maintain our feeding program, stock our clothing and thrift store, continue to expand and improve our preschool, provide Christmas gifts to all our students and recruit new students to our campus. But most importantly you prayed for us and helped us to keep our faith strong and our hearts willing! May God richly bless you in the upcoming year! Candice Burnette
