2 General Fund TREASURER S REPORT APRIL, 2012 Identified receipts for the month of April were $12,000, versus a budgeted amount of $11,000. Year to date receipts are $53,000 versus a budgeted amount of $45,000. This variance is the result of the booking in 2012 of prepaid giving that was received in When this is considered, the giving was $300 behind budgeted levels. Expenses for the month were favorable by $1,500 as compared with budget, while the year-to-date expenses were favorable by $3,500. Building Fund Men s Breakfast The Men s Breakfast Group will meet at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, June 27, in the back room of Eat n Park Restaurant on Bridgeport Hill. Bring a friend along and join us. As always, you are encouraged to invite a friend or neighbor to join with us for a time of Christian fellowship. Remember Men s Breakfast is the fourth Wednesday of each month! The balance on the note that resulted from the building improvement and expansion project is $20,000. We have received $11,000 through April, including the $5,000 match donation. Session voted at the May meeting to completely pay off the note. This will be done within the next month. Thank you for your continued support of our church. 3 From the Choir Director By the time you are reading this newsletter, choir will have finished for year. You all know what that means - yes, it is Yellow Pad Sign Up time. For those of you new to the church, the Yellow Pad can be found on the front pew and lists the open dates for singers and instrumentalists to sign up and share you musical gift at a service during the summer. With the addition of the new sound system, we can accommodate just about any type of performance. If you need help finding music, check out musicnotes.com for various pieces from gospel to contemporary. This is not a free service, but it is very reasonable, and you can print the music from your home computer. Many times you can even change the key to fit the range you want. Instrumental arrangements are available as well. A source for accompaniment tapes is Christianbook.com. Just type in the song title in the search area, check music and it will display various tracks of the song. Be sure to look for accompaniment tracks only. Many of the choices can be downloaded to your computer and then dubbed to a CD, or you may purchase the track CD. They usually ship in just a few days. Need a pianist, just let Beth Armentrout or me know, and we ll be glad to help. Honestly, there is no reason not to share your gift with the congregation, unless you think you would clear the church!!! LOL!!! (for you older or non-texting folk that means laugh out loud ) Now on a more serious note, I would like you to pray about joining the choir next fall. I know that there are many great voices in the congregation, and we always have room for more. We really are fun group of people who are committed to singing God s praises through-out the year. If you feel the call, please let one of the choir members or Beth and me know. We d be glad to discuss it with you. Our first practice usually is the Wednesday before Labor Day. Davis Director of Music IMPACT CONCERT June 21, 7:00 p.m. IMPACT, the youth choir of Burke Presbyterian Church in Burke, VA, will be traveling on a mission tour to West Virginia from June 21-26, While on tour, IMPACT will sing concerts in churches, shelters, and nursing homes and serve others through mission projects. IMPACT will be at our church on Thursday, June 21. Burke Presbyterian Church has had a youth choir for more than fifteen years. This is the seventh year that the choir will take a mission tour to share the love of Jesus Christ with other congregations and community organizations through music. The choir sings a minute program of contemporary Christian, Gospel, and traditional music, all with live accompaniment. Host families are needed for the evening of June 21, to house the participants. Families would host two youth overnight, provide breakfast and return them to the church by 8:30 the next morning. Please let Bev Sandy or Marlene Graber know if you can house 2 youth or adults. We will have a covered dish dinner before the concert.

4 PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION! On May 10, 2012, 14 women gathered to celebrate Presbyterian Women s annual Birthday Offering. After playing several games of Birthday Bingo, hearing a Birthday-themed devotional, and learning some history about the Birthday Offering, the ladies collected a total of $263 to be used in PW s worldwide mission activities. Well done, ladies!!! Then, it was on to decorating homemade mini cupcakes and sharing a wonderful time of fellowship. Thanks to all who helped to make this evening such an enjoyable event.

Please plan to participate in the sale and the advance work. We will be sorting and setting up earlier in the week. Details will follow. You may donate books anytime; just put them in the blue baskets in the narthex. Thanks to those who have donated already. All proceeds will go to the Children's Health Pantry.

6 SESSION HIGHLIGHTS The Session of the Bridgeport Presbyterian Church met for their Stated Meeting on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 7:00 PM. The Reverend Robin Ray moderated. Elder Doug Gray presented the evening s devotions and opened the meeting with prayer. Highlights are: Average attendance for the month of April = 64 Stephen Ministry Beth McCaugherty reported the class of six had completed the course and were installed on Sunday, May 6. Presbyterian Women Beth McCaugherty, Moderator, thanked the Coordinating Team for their involvement in the PW Birthday Celebration on May 10, due to her absence. She advised Relay for Life is June 1and we currently have $1, pledged. Outreach Alison Deem, Chair, advised Senior Recognition is May 20 th, honoring Dani and Gabi Hamner. The CHP Book Sale is schedule for August 24 and 25. Congregational Life Beth McCaugherty, Chair, advised they are organizing a group to attend a concert on July 1 at the Shinnston City Park. Monday, July 2 is scheduled as a rain date. They will be collecting electronics for the recycling program on July 28 and 29. Elder Pam Pinti advised they have planned and are hosting a luncheon for John Hartley after the service on May 9. The committee agreed to sponsor a program for couples Prepare and Erich. Resource Management Elder Urlin Mathews reported they are in the process of establishing a Key Control Policy. He advised Facebook is up and running and pictures and ideas should be directed to Kevin McMullen. Christian Education Sue Davis, Chair, advised the youth are looking forward to Youth Sunday on May 20. Teacher Recognition is June 10, under the supervision of Donna Trickett. Vacation Bible School is June and Birds of Prey will be present on June 26. Worship Beverly Sandy, Chair, reminded Session of the group Impact performing at BPC on June 21 and passed a sign-up sheet for housing. Naomi Burkhammer, Clerk Flute Choir, Lenten Service Lenten Soups Blankets for Ruby Just one and a half yards of fleece material is all it takes to bring a child facing surgery some much needed comfort. At our Birthday Celebration, Presbyterian Women also contributed a total of $70, and an overwhelming amount of fleece, to be used in this heartwarming ministry. During the Worship Service on Sunday, May 13 th, a total of 14 tie blankets, 16 receiving blankets, and 2 prayer shawls made by the women of the church were blessed in preparation to being delivered to Ruby memorial Hospital. Our own Gail Liebig, R.N., has witnessed for herself the joy these blankets bring to pediatric surgical patients. We have so many struggling families come for surgery and this is a warm and fuzzy comfort to the little ones. They are ALWAYS apprehensive and scared. We put this blanket on their cart and it goes to surgery with them. It also comes out with them in the recovery room and of course goes home with them. So many of the children wrap their dolls in it. The parents seem to really like knowing they have been blessed. It is though the angels are watching over their children. Thank you to the McMullen family for all their help.
