5 From the Master in the East Worshipful Rollie Caabay FROM THE EAST Brethren, frst of all, I wish you all a great year afer the happy holidays and the fervent hope that each one of us would be blessed with good health and contnued happiness throughout. I thank you all for giving me and my corps of ofcers the privilege of serving our Lodge in this ensuing Masonic year. We do have our work and the challenges which each undertaking entails. It is with great pleasure to express my sincerest appreciaton to the Installing Team for a very impressive ceremony, the hours of repettve memorizaton and practce, I can surely appreciate what this process took. WB Dean Dagdagan, your magnifcence as the Installing Ofcer, WB John Wasson, your smooth footwork (as always) on the foor as the Master of Ceremonies and WB Albert Lawson, with your inspiratonal prayer. Again, my sincere appreciaton goes to each one of you. This year promises to be more challenging to operatons and fnancial need of the Lodge. We have to implement some drastc changes on how we manage the Lodge, especially on the procedures in keeping our books. Financially, it all starts with us paying our dues in tme. As each one of you know, dues is the lifeblood of any organizaton. It determines the programs and actvites of the lodge. A big part of it is to pay for the training of our future leaders, an investment for our future. Degrees, we will try our best to perform two degrees every month efectve January. Untl we catch up to our candidates who has been waitng for quite sometme. Hopefully this plan of events will work. Brethren, let s all join hands and contribute to the success of our lodge. As a Lodge, we believed in the saying all work and no play makes John a dull person so we also planned to schedule in the near future, a social and entertainment actvites for the lodge. I need some of your input on this mater. As I said, I need your helping hands and good ideas for the beneft of the Lodge members. To our Corps of Ofcers, we as a group will be doing our jobs with integrity, transparency and accountability. We have been tasked with governing the lodge and we will keep this trust from our brethren. We are here to serve the interest of the Lodge, our community and our Fraternity. 6 From the Senior in the West THE SUN IS IN THE WEST Brethren, Congratulations to the ofcers of the Naval Lodge 87 and let s concentrate and make this a better year. I d like to thank the brethren for making my time in the kitchen an enjoyable and rewarding experienced. Your tremendous assistance made it easier for me to take care of the kitchen. I have to admit that it was quite a daunting task being in charge of the kitchen and having to deal with the brethren whose expectations were exponentially high. The frst time I was at Costco to shop for the lodge, I was petrifed; I did not have any clue where to fnd the rest of the ingredients not even the basic stuf. With Mike Nesmith s help, I managed to fnd my way and later feel at ease with my duties. Guy Benjamin was also a great help who provided us with great meals on special occasions. My appeal to my colleague ofcers of the Lodge is for you to observe and learn from the rest of the team during out rehearsals. I highly encourage you to attend the School of Instructions to learn the minute details to perform our rituals. It behooves us to look ahead and be ready for the next position to avoid lengthy practices and being under the gun when the month of August comes around. Again, thank you for the vote of confdence for giving me the chance to serve you. ASSISTANCE IS REQUESTED IN THE KITCHEN I AM LOOKING FOR HELP TO ASSIST WITH KITCHEN OPERATIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO SUPPORT THE LODGE AND MEET SOME OF (IF NOT ALL) OF YOUR BROTHERS. TYPICALLY, WE WILLNEED HELP PREPARING THE STATED MEETING DINNERS THE FIRST THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH. WE WILL NEED PREPERATION AS WELL AS CLEANUP HELP. PLEASE CONTACT ME AT (510) TO LET ME KNOW YOUR AVAILABILITY.
