2 Renovation Update January 18, 2018 By Norman Heyden בס "ד Although we have made tremendous progress, Renovation work still remains, and if you have not as yet contributed, it is definitely not too late. Many renovation dedication opportunities are still available, including benches for the main shul at $1800 each. Please contact Michael Garber or Norman Heyden for details. Box 1533 Highland Park, NJ (732) office@ohavemeth.org In the past week: B H, a major milestone in the history of Ohav Emeth and in this major renovation effort WAS achieved this week with the delivery and installation of the new benches and furniture. The craftsmanship is outstanding and the room is beautiful!! Everything we hoped for has been achieved. As everyone gets used to the new layout please note the following: The book racks behind each bench are designed to hold ONE sefer at a time, such as a siddur OR Chumash, not multiple seforim. Please DO NOT stack seforim on the book racks lest they collapse into the downward closed position and the seforim end up on the floor. As has been mentioned repeatedly, DO NOT REACH UNDER THE BOOK RACKS. Pulling on the mechanism below the book rack will damage it. They are raised and lowered by holding onto the book rack itself and moving it up or down. Please be sure to help others understand this important point. The amount of space (leg room) between benches is 6 more than standard and more than in any other Shul in town, and was a primary requirement for the layout. As requested at a Membership Committee meeting, we were able to have a table for learning placed in the front women s pit area with surrounding chairs, and still have more than sufficient seating capacity for year round needs. The two sliding front doors on the Aron Kodesh with new handles were installed. The cylinder for the door lock did not fit and has been reordered. It will be installed next week. Therefore you will see that the cylinder is currently missing. The side doors on the Aron Kodesh will also be installed next week. The lettering and stained glass windows are expected to be delivered and installed within the next two to four weeks. Progress has been made on obtaining the replacement mesh material for the mechitza which will be installed on the women s side of the glass sheets and we expect to determine shortly how well this idea will work to minimize or even totally eliminate reflections from light coming through the stained glass windows. The mechitza is not yet completed and molding to hide the LED light strip still needs to be installed. Thank you for your continued patience. 4 ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE OHAV EMETH WEBSITE COMMITTEE At this time, we would like to invite our members to create accounts on the new Congregation Ohav Emeth website ( hosted by ShulCloud. ShulCloud, an established system that hosts several hundred synagogue websites and back-office operations, is quite secure. Briefly, login access to the website will allow you to do the following: Review your financial account with the Shul and make payments to the Shul via Credit Card or PayPal Review and edit your family s profile, including names and ages of family members, yahrtzeit reminders, and other personal information In order to get access, just the website administrator at admin@ohavemeth.org and make sure to include your name. If both spouses in a 2-adult family would like access, each should the administrator separately. Each spouse will be able to access the full account. The administrator will activate your account and you will be sent an invitation to set your password and log onto the site. For now, the gabbai will continue to maintain the yahrtzeit lists that are used in shul. The yahrtzeits in ShulCloud will be used to generate reminder letters prior to the date of the yahrtzeit, as we currently do. For now, the shul office will continue to maintain the shul list for announcements and other broadcasts. If you are not on the list and would like to be, please contact the office separately. In the future, the site will also enable you to sign up for events, reserve High Holiday seats, sign up for Torah reading, and other functions not possible on our old site. You may be receiving this as a nonmember. Account access is currently being offered to members and associate members only. PLEASE NOTE: When payments to the shul are made online, it will be automatically applied to your account ONLY IF you are logged in first. If you do not log in, the office must transfer the payment manually to your account. Please make every effort to log in before making payments online. Thank you! THEY ARE DESIGNED TO HOLD ONE SEFER AT A TIME. DO NOT REACH UNDERNEATH THE NEW BOOK RACKS ON THE BACK OF THE NEW BENCHES AND PULL ONTHE MECHANISM. PULLING ON THE MECHANISM BELOW THE NEW BOOK RACKS WILL DAMAGE THE MECHANISM. All of the book racks on the new benches are raised or lowered by holding onto them with one or two hands and moving them either in an upward or downward direction.
