OE Purim Announcements *One of the defining features of Purim is the importance of community. We come together to hear the Megillah, twice, and we send Shalach Manos all around town. Purim carnivals and seudot bring friends and families together, allowing us to celebrate the historic victory more deeply and to talk with each other about the Purim messages that enrich our lives. On this holiday of community, your shul community can use your help. We are planning to hold our annual Purim carnival, on Motzei Shabbat, March 11th. It is a highlight of our youth department calendar and a delight to all who attend. To make this event a strong success, we are asking our members to consider sponsoring this event. If you're willing to provide funds or gifts, please send the shul office at office@ohavemeth.org by March 1st. *We're also pleased to continue to offer the opportunity to send Shalach Manos to fellow shul members and community members through a centralized program run by the shul, at a low cost. We're grateful to the volunteers who've stepped forward to help manage this program. As we have in years past, we seek additional volunteers who'll agree to deliver between 6-12 Shalach Manos packages on behalf of the shul. Shul Shalach Manos delivery people give us an hour of their chag and serve as ambassadors of OE. If you're willing to serve as a Shalach Manos delivery person, please contact Felice at office@ohavemeth.org. Thank you for your commitment to our shul community. Bowling Shoe-Shine-A-Thon on Shushan Purim Show your support for OE by pledging per pin in sponsorship of Rabbi Kaufman s Bowl-A-Thon which will take place on Shushan Purim, Monday, March 13th, We appreciate your generosity! Purim Costume Gemach Congregation Ohav Emeth s 10th Annual Purim Costume Gemach will kick off on Rosh Chodesh Adar, February 26th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with great excitement. Over 800 infants to adult costumes are available to borrow. Both kids and their parents enjoy coming to see what new costumes there are and trying on new costumes. All of the costumes have been donated over the last 9 years by great community members. The Gemach continues this year for 3 more days on Wednesday night, March 1st from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm, Sunday March 5th from 10 am-3 pm and on Tuesday March 7th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The cost is either a $5 donation or 1 donated costume per costume borrowed. The gemach is located at Congregation Ohav Emeth, 415 Raritan Ave., Highland Park, NJ. For more information costumegemach@yahoo.com or see our facebook page at Fire Drill This Shabbat There have been a number of threats made against Jewish institutions in the last months. Within the last few weeks, JCC's have been targeted with bomb threats. Our shul has established a safety, fire and security committee to create a safe environment within our building. In the event of an emergency where we might have to evacuate the building, it is prudent that we prepare not only a plan but we practice that plan. This Shabbos morning, February 18th, we are planning to have a simple fire drill. The entire shul will be evacuated for a short period of time. We appreciate your cooperation with this most important matter.

8 OE Parent Child Learning with YJS Join us for two exciting evenings of Parent-Child learning presented by Yeshiva at the Jersey Shore (YJS) and hosted by OE, on Motzei Shabbos February 18th at 7:15pm and March 25th at 9:00pm. We invite all boys and girls from grades 3-8 to come learn with their parents, grandparents, teachers and friends. There will be source sheets, leveled by grade, opening and closing thoughts by the Rabbis of YJS, and refreshments. We hope to see you there! An Open Appeal from One of Our OE Member Families We realize there are many requests for Tzedaka, all heart wrenching. However, the rules of Tzedaka are to first help your family, then help your community, then outside the community. Here is a campaign started by longtime members of our community, who are presently struggling with the serious issue of having a family member trying to recover in rehab. They need to raise about $6,000 a month and rehab can take about a year. please-help-us-afford-rehab-to-save-our -son. Please open up your hearts and help this local family keep their son in rehab. They have been generous in the past in supporting our community and never thought they would need to ask for themselves. (Please note: Rabbi Kaufman and Rabbi Kaminetzky have reviewed this issue and the great need of the family and encourage all to help in this extremely worthy and life saving effort.) If you wish to make out a check instead of contributing online, please make it out to Congregation Ohav Emeth and in the memo write Rabbi's Charity Fund. On a separate note (NOT IN MEMO) write that it is for the Rehab Campaign.
