IF YOU WERE IN SHUL ON SHABBOS, DECEMBER 20 th LAST YEAR, THANK YOU FOR MAKING A KIDDUSH HASHEM! Relatives of the Lestz family were visiting for Yossi s bar mitzvah back in December and had many positive things to say about our shul. Here are some excerpts. Enjoy! Upon entering the room for the kiddush, I wasn't sure which foods I should try. I inquired with some of the young gentlemen what the different items were. They were delighted to answer my questions and took it upon themselves to happily serve me the delicious foods. Such genuine and warm hospitality! Cousin Susan I LOVE going to your synagogue! What I most enjoy about visiting your synagogue is the authentic spirit of generosity I always encounter. I have NEVER been made to feel unwelcome in any way, by any person. Quite the contrary. I am always warmly greeted and made to feel like someone immensely important and special I am both honored and grateful to have been so welcomed and embraced by your community. It is, in the very best and most important ways, an impressive and gracious group. I can t wait to return and visit again. Aunt Judy Not only were the members very kind to the visiting families, but they also were very generous with the schnapps during the kiddish. When I was growing up and going to shul with Pap-Pap, we never had such a nice kiddish. Cousin David Bar Mitzvah weekend was wonderful; but, it was made even more special by how Uncle Fred & I were received at your Shul. We expected your friends to be warm & friendly. What we didn't expect was people who didn't know us coming over to say Shabbot Shalom & to ask where we were from, etc. When we told them who & why, they Mozel Tov'd us like we were THEIR family!! Thanks to everyone, friends & strangers, for being so welcoming. Now, from our home to yours SHABBOT SHALOM!! Aunt Fran It seemed as though everyone made an attempt to make those who did not follow the same religious customs feel very welcome. Most synagogues, you do not receive that kind of approach and I definitely noticed the warm southern hospitality. Cousin Eric
I came to Dallas not really knowing what to expect. I never experienced an orthodox community. I was pleasantly surprised by a shul that was so lovely, and a service following a very traditional pattern of worship, with so much positive energy and loving spirit. Also, I believe every person in the congregation both Friday night and Shabbat morning personally welcomed me and helped me follow along in the siddur. The camaraderie I felt in both Friday and Shabbat services will stay with me for a long time. Uncle George We certainly enjoyed Yossi's affair and the wonderful hospitality shown to us by all you Texas folks. I really found the services in your shul reminded me so much of those at home when I was growing up in Lancaster. They were quite inspiring. You all have shul that you does you proud. Thanks so much for inviting us, as it now becomes one of our very fond memories. Aunt Ruthie and Uncle Sam The weekend at your home and at shul reminded me how lucky I am to be born Jewish and how important it is to incorporate Jewish Torah and wisdom daily, into my life. It was a pleasure to be welcomed by and into your community. Aunt Janie
6324 Churchill Way * Dallas, Texas * (972) * July 27, 2015 Dear Members, Associates, and Friends of Ohr HaTorah It is time once again to make reservations for the High Holidays. Rosh Hashana Sunday evening, September 13 th - Tuesday evening, September 15 th Yom Kippur Tuesday evening, September 22 nd - Wednesday evening, September 23 rd Cognizant of the many financial demands on our Members, the Board has kept prices the same and continued changes implemented last year, such as substantially reducing pricing for the children of our Members, including visiting family and friends under the Member rate, and adopting a special low first-time seating price for Dallas residents new to Ohr. Please note that the Member rate applies only if, by no later than August 24, 2015: (a) the Member's account of dues and pledges to the Shul are paid in full; OR (b) the Member is meeting a regular payment schedule to pay off dues and pledges by December 31, Otherwise, the Non-Member rate will apply. This policy ensures that Membership has its privileges for paying Members, which is a fair requirement for our general Membership and for the financial health of the Shul. As always, special accommodations will be made for anyone with genuine financial needs. To make such arrangements, simply speak with Rabbi Feigenbaum or Michael Geller. The Board is also pleased to announce that any Non-Member who purchases high holiday seats will be eligible for a 50% discount off of the first year of membership when they join Ohr for the first time before Chanukah.
Please be aware of a few other general guidelines: 1. Reservations will not be accepted without a form and payment. Payment is accepted via cash, check or credit card. 2. If you are unsure of your membership status, please contact Dee Dee Weeks at , ext Seat reservations will be filled in the priority stated in the rate chart. Seating for Members with reservations received by August 24 th is guaranteed; seating for associates and non-members, or for reservations submitted after August 24 th, is based on space availability, and is at the Rabbi s and President s discretion. 4. All seat reservations are for the entirety of Rosh Hashana/Yom Kippur; we are unable split reservations between Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur. 5. For security purposes, and to help us with our logistical planning, please inform us if you plan to share your seat, or if you will not be in attendance for either Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur; with apologies we are unable to credit unused seats. ** Early Bird Rate Deadline: August 24, 2015 ** Status Member (includes adult family members and visiting out of town family/friends) Reservation received by August 24 th Reservation received AFTER August 24 th $200 per seat $325 per seat Member s Child aged (seated at table) $150 per seat $200 per seat Member s Child aged 8-12 (may be seated at end of table) (note Childcare is available) $80 per seat $150 per seat Associates $425 per seat $550 per seat Non-members $525 per seat $625 per seat Special Welcome Rate (Dallas residents new to Ohr, attending Ohr High Holidays for the first time) $125 per seat $125 per seat Learners Service (paid directly to DATA) $125 per seat $150 per seat ** Early Bird Rate Deadline: August 24, 2015 **
Learners Service There will be a Learners Service for both holidays led by Rabbi Bentzi Epstein. This interactive service is for those who are new to Orthodox High Holiday services and features lively discussions, in-depth explanations, and prayer books with both Hebrew and English. Please indicate which service you will be attending on the reservation form. The cost of all Learners Service seats, independent of membership status, is $150 (early bird of $125 if paid by August 24 th ). All reservations and payment for the learner s service should be made with DATA ( ). Childcare Again there will be full-scale childcare programs for newborns through students entering 6 th grade. Experienced caregivers will make this year the best yet. The following is the pricing schedule which includes childcare for 2 days of Rosh Hashana and 1 day of Yom Kippur; please fill out the enclosed Childcare Registration form to finalize your reservations for childcare. 1 child $50 2 children $60 3 children $75 More than 3 $100 Sponsorships If you would like to help sponsor a High Holiday seat and/or childcare expenses for a member, please contact Dee Dee Weeks at ext 23. Fundraising Once again, the Shul will be making an appeal during the Yom Kippur service. We are counting on the continued generous support of our members so that we can maintain our financial stability. This is our most critical financial appeal of the year. Please give serious thought and planning for making a generous pledge.
