Box 1533 Highland Park NJ (732) As most of you are probably aware, we decided to expand the scope of the renovations as the year has passed. For example, the plans for the beis medrash initially were limited to replacing the floor. This has blossomed into a full-scale renovation in which literally everything in the beis medrash, other than the stained glass windows, has been replaced, or is in the process of being replaced. The generosity of many people has made this possible, however, many donations were made over the course of multiple years, and more money is needed now to cover all of our expenses. Therefore, as the tax year ends, please consider paying any outstanding dedications promptly, and if you were planning to pay a portion of your dedication next year or in subsequent years, please consider accelerating your payment(s) into this year. Many dedication opportunities are still available, including benches for the main shul at $1800 each. Please contact Michael Garber or Norman Heyden for details. If you have not as yet contributed, please help support the magnificent restoration of our shul on its centennial anniversary! We need everyone s support! Installation of the Jerusalem stone is essentially complete except for a few stones that will be installed near the top once the arch of the Aron Kodesh is installed. The remaining vertical open areas will be sheet rocked, while the remaining horizontal areas will be finished with a wood molding. It is expected that all of the remaining work will be completed in about 3 weeks. The 8 creation theme stained glass windows should be installed in about 4 weeks. A small coat rod for children s coats was installed this week at the rear of the main coat room. If successful, the width of the rod will be lengthened. The bench in the vestibule was mounted to the wall with pieces of wood behind the bench. The pieces of wood will be covered with the same fabric lining the seat. The shtenders on the front bima of the main shul were shortened. New Holland delivered a sample production model of one of the shorter benchs for our inspection, which appears at the back of the men s section in the Main Shul. The bench has been approved and New Holland will now begin full-scale production. The benches are on schedule for delivery and installation the week of January 7 th. The new foldable mechitza for the Beis Medrash has been built by Mr. Fligelman, and is expected to be installed either next week or the following week. New wood-slat blinds were ordered for the beis medrash and will be installed in mid- December. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF THE BOOK RACKS ON THE NEW BENCHES It is imperative that everyone fully understand how to use the new book racks that will be attached to the back of each of the new benches to avoid damaging them. The current book racks on the benches in the main shul are raised or lowered by moving the wood mechanism below the racks. All of the book racks on the new benches are raised or lowered by holding onto them with one or two hands and moving them either in an upward or downward direction. DO NOT REACH UNDERNEATH THE NEW BOOK RACKS AND PULL ON THE MECHANISM. PULLING ON THE MECHANISM BELOW THE NEW BOOK RACKS WILL DAMAGE THE MECHANISM. When the new benches are installed in January please help others by demonstrating how to properly raise or lower the rack. For any questions please contact Norman Heyden or Michael Garber.

4 HOWARD BEYER MEMORIAL FUND Our dear husband, father, and longtime OE member, Howard Beyer's 4th yahrtzeit will be Kislev 20, November To honor his legacy of working to better the lives of juveniles and the disenfranchised with the State of NJ, we have partnered with ELEM/Youth in Distress in Israel to raise funds to better the lives of homeless youth in Israel. There are thousands of young adults and at-risk youth roaming the streets of Israel who are substance abusers, homeless, and detached from any therapeutic, social or family support. At Someone to Run With, a drop-in center in Tel Aviv, ELEM social workers, staff, and volunteers conduct outreach and provide humanitarian aid including food, clothing, hot showers, medical aid/supplies and most importantly emotional support. There, young adults are offered a chance to change their lives with an individualized year long program developed for each resident which includes continual contact with a social worker, group therapy, life-skills development, drug rehabilitation, and a volunteer mentor. Help us change these children's lives in Israel in Howard's memory.
