1 CABOT UMC NEWS A community of faith striving to be Spirit-filled while experiencing Christ s limitless transformation through relationships, worship and service. Frequently Asked Questions about Women s Banquet: Why is the Women s Banquet so early this year? The earlier date gives us additional time to finalize the amount of scholarship money that will be available for current K-6 th graders to attend summer camps so that parents may take advantage of early-bird discounts that are often available at registration. Are items still needed for the Silent Auction? YES, YES, and YES! Items and/or services are still needed! Paintings, jewelry, baskets, purses, vases, wreath, Christmas items, furniture, gift cards,..the sky s the limit! The more items we have, the more shopping that can be done.which means more funds available for Summer Camp Scholarships for children! Please contact Ashley Carlisle or Jennifer Holowell to donate items or leave the items (with your name included, please!) in Darlene s office. Are Table Hostesses Still Needed? YES hostesses are asked to provide a game for their table of 6-8 and decorate their table reflecting that game, if you choose (certainly not required!) Games may be as simple as checkers, spades, or monopoly! I do not have a specific table where I d like to sit. Will there be a place for me at the Banquet? CERTAINLY! If you want to sit with a specific hostess, simply give that information when you purchase your ticket. Otherwise, you will be assigned a table when you arrive. There will be a place for everyone who wishes to attend! (But, we do ask that you purchase your ticket ahead of time, just so we ll have an accurate headcount, please!)
2 Ash Wednesday Service February 14 7:00pm, Sanctuary Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. Ash Wednesday emphasizes two themes: our sinfulness before God and our human mortality. The service focuses on both themes, helping us to realize that both have been triumphed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Join us on Ash Wednesday for a special time of prayer and worship. Jeremiah sent a letter of hope to the captives in Babylon, reminding them that God would one day bring them back to Jerusalem, and encouraging them to prosper even as exiles in a foreign land. Please read Chapter 19 The Return Home for this coming Sunday, February 4th. Journaling questions have been sent via the church app and are also available on the church website under the corresponding sermon title. Here are some upcoming messages: Feb. 4 The Return Home Feb. 11 The Queen of Beauty and Courage Feb. 18 Rebuilding the Walls Feb. 25 The Birth of the King A new, short-term Bible study class, led by Harriet Meadows, will be offered on Tuesday mornings starting on February 13 10:00 a.m. in Room E104.
