Submit to: office@trinitydells.org The Trinity Trumpet Connecting people to Jesus See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. 1 John 3:1 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I am writing these words in the midst of our first real winter cold snap of the season. You know those days of below zero temperatures and talk about wind chill. It doesn t take long during these cold snaps to walk outside and feel the chill to our bones. With it now being February and Valentine s Day, it might be a good time to remind us based upon the above verse that God s love warms us up! How well does that phrase work when someone with chronic pain is having another flare up? How great does that line work for the person whose child is now dealing with an addiction? How well does that line warm someone up who suddenly lost a loved one? How well does that line about God s love warming us up sound when we hear the words of a devastating diagnosis? How warm does someone feel when their whole life feels like it is falling apart? Let s be honest. People can say and do some terrible things. Desperate people will do anything to get their way. Addicted people will stoop to lows no one would ever choose on their own. Pain can make people irritable and downright nasty at times. Grief can lead us down paths that we don t ever want to admit to. When things get hard and bleak, our mind will take us places we never want to be. I haven t even mentioned the different ways people do chose to do terrible things on their own power and volition. The fact of the matter is people can be awful. This is where God s love comes in especially with the quoted verse. All of us have made mistakes and done some bad things. Yet, by God s grace God still calls you His precious child. See what kind of love the Father has for the addict. Hear what love the father has for the grieving. Discover the amazing love the Father has for the down and out. See what kind of love the Father has for you. No matter how bad we have it or how bad we make it, by God s grace the Father still wants you to be His child. No matter how bad the situation is, Jesus still loves you enough to die on the cross. He died for you, for the homeless, for the addict, for the terminally ill, for the hurting, for the lost, and for everyone else not yet mentioned here. Oh how incredible the love of God is! Despite all the objections above it really is true: God s love does warm you up. In Christ, Pastor Gehrke

2 Prayers: We Pray this month This is a guide to help all members of Trinity to study God s Word and be in prayer each week. The Scripture readings are based upon the upcoming Sunday s Scripture readings so that each member can have a better understanding and grasp of what worship will be centered upon. Also it contains prayer requests that members can pray for in their daily devotions and members of Trinity can be united together in their prayers throughout the week. Beginning the week of Prayers Feb. 4 We read: Isaiah 6, 1 Corinthians 14, and Luke 5 We Pray: For those with mental illnesses. For the homeless in our community. For the Lutheran Church of Kongo. Feb. 11 We read: Jeremiah 17, 1 Corinthians 15:1-20, and Luke 6:1-26 We Pray: For the ones who feel unloved. For those in our community who do not know Jesus great love. For China Evangelical Lutheran Church. Feb. 18 We read: Genesis 45, 1 Corinthians 15:21-42, and Luke 6:27-38 We Pray: For our homebound members. For the families of our community affect by addictions. For The Lutheran Church Hong Kong Synod. Feb. 25 We read: Deuteronomy 34, Hebrews 3, and Luke 9 We Pray: For the youth of Trinity. For our local government officials. For the India Evangelical Lutheran Church. Book of Concord Quote of the Month: We should never regard this call from God, which takes place through the preaching of the Word, as some kind of deception. Instead, we should know that God reveals his will through it, namely, that he wills to work through his Word in those whom he has called, so that they may be enlightened, converted, and saved. 3 AROUND THE CHURCH Sunday morning Bible Study continues in the basement at 8:30am Sundays before worship! We are now studying the book of Acts. Wednesday afternoon Bible Study continues during February. We are studying The Apostles at 1:00pm outside the Trinity Fellowship Room. Online Bible Study continues to study the Gospel of Matthew, Thursday evenings around 7pm. Join our online Bible Study at called Trinity Lutheran Church Online Bible Study. The next TEAM Trinity Event will be Sunday, Feb. 17 at 4pm. We will meet in the basement of the church. Sunday School is going great. Teachers are needed. Please sign-up on the sheet in the ramp hallway. Confirmation continues on Wednesdays in February! We will meet every Wednesday in February 5:30-6:30 in Mr. Motzkus s room. Doesn t Lent start in February? Not this year! Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which is March 6 this year. Easter Sunday is April 21. A simple, short, and sweet evangelism project is coming the week of Valentine s Day. Make sure you participate. It will be an easy and awesome way to invite someone to worship with you. Thrivent is coming to Trinity on Sunday, March 3 after worship! Learn about a variety of financial information including Thrivent Choice Dollars, Thrivent Action teams, bequests, and many other opportunities through Thrivent! Ladies Day of World Prayer Friday, March 1 st Join us at Myrt & Lucy s Chat & Chew 9:30am Breakfast This breakfast is for all faiths, so bring a friend for a morning of prayer and fellowship. As part of the Lutheran School s Week activities, the students are painting soup bowls for hunger. Each student will paint a bowl and all bowls will be on auction on February 10 th at 11am in the church basement. All proceeds collected will go to the local food bank to reach homeless people in Wisconsin. Join us for the upcoming Soup-er Bowl! Can you cook soup or chili for February 10th? We need YOU!
