A nonprofit agency of the United Methodist Church, UMCOR reaches worldwide to provide relief in five core areas: Hunger, Health, Refugees, Emergencies, and Relief Supplies. Since 1940 UMCOR has served people in almost 100 countries around the world. The organization is designed such that 100% of all donations are channeled directly to the earmarked project or relief effort. Therefore, UMCOR does very little advertising and is not as well-known as other relief organizations. When UMCOR was first formed, the mission was to provide relief in disaster areas, aiding refugees and confronting the challenge of world hunger and poverty. Today the agency s mission has changed very little. According to the United Methodist Book of Discipline, UMCOR s current responsibility is To provide immediate relief of acute human need and to respond to the suffering of persons in the world caused by natural, ecological, political turmoil and civil disaster. For more than 50 years, United Methodist congregations have been taking part in a special UMCOR Sunday offering, laying the foundation for UMCOR s ministry of relief and hope. Donations UMCOR receives through this offering cover our costs of doing business. Gifts like yours make it possible for UMCOR to use 100% of all other contributions on the projects our donors specify, instead of on administrative or fundraising costs. Because of your donation, we re ready to respond in times of crisis. BIBLE BOWL! Wednesday, April 11, 6:00 7:15 p.m. in the CUMC Family Life Center Gym for 3-year-olds 4 th graders! 5 Rotation Sunday School Mission Project April 8-May 6 Lonoke County Safe Haven. When the Pharisees asked Jesus, Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. For the next five weeks, we will find out who our neighbors are, and what it means to love them. Lonoke County Safe Haven is our local shelter for women and children who find themselves needing a safe place to stay. Many times, these families have to leave their home quickly and most of their possessions are left behind in order to be safe. These are our neighbors! We have the opportunity and the responsibility to help provide them with some of the things they need. Right now, the shelter is in need of the following items: Pantry snacks: These are snacks that don t need refrigeration to stay fresh. Cracker packs, pudding cups, fruit cups, individual packs of chips, etc. Underwear: All sizes for both boys and girls. Paper goods: Paper towels, Ziploc bags, toilet paper. We will be collecting these items until May 6. You will find a collection box in The River Channel. Thank you, Boys & Girls, for bringing these items to help your Neighbors!
