At church, this means that we seek to have people serve in their areas of giftedness, that we try to have the best equipment and maintain our facility in the best possible condition...and that we care for people in the best possible ways. We are striving for excellence, but can t always practice perfection! God deserves our best and he himself shows us "the most excellent way," the way of love. We will celebrate the Sacrament of the The Lord's Supper at both services as we join in with the global church on "World Communion Sunday." NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC The Gospels remind us that whenever Jesus taught he drew crowds. Jesus interacted with crowds in such a way so that they could get to know him intimately, fully and forever. As an attractional church we need to ask ourselves these questions: Are there barriers here that might prevent people from coming to know Jesus? Are we truly accepting of everyone? Once people are here, what are the chances of them actually getting to know Jesus and how will that happen? Are we doing all we can to be hospitable? Read Luke 6:17-19 to prepare for this worship service.

4 ANNOUNCEMENTS Children's Worship (ages 3-5th grade) meets each Sunday at the 9:00 am and 10:30 am services. Parents have the option of sending their children for the full hour or start with family worship in the sanctuary and send them down midway into the service. We believe that a small group is the best place to connect with others while experiencing sustained life change. In these groups, people study God s Word and discuss the issues and challenges of life. It s also where people pray together, care for one another and are missed if they don t show up. We want to create small groups that meet on a regular basis to Connect, Grow, Serve and Share. Sign up today in the lobby. Attention parents of college students: It is time to sign up your student for the goodies boxes! Sign up binder is at the information desk. Be sure to include their full mailing address. Rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays at 7 pm - an hour of singing and fun. Hope to see former members and lots of new faces! Men s Bible Study - Join us in the ECRC conference room on Thursday mornings at 9 am to study the book of Philippians. Pathfinders is collecting small containers with lids (such as butter dishes, Cool Whip, etc.). Please leave them in the bag by the information desk by October 7. PrimeTime (55+) presents the incredible, true story of five martyred missionaries and God s ongoing work through their sacrifice. Olive Fleming Liefeld s first husband was Peter Fleming, one of five missionaries martyred by the Auca Indians in Olive and her husband Walter Liefeld will tell the story in the Garden Room of Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church. Join us for an unforgettable evening on Thursday, October 8 at 7 pm. All are welcome! Sisters Helping Each Other (SHE) is hosting their next meeting on Oct. 11 from 12:30-2:30 pm in the Garden Room. Attendees will be enjoy a delicious lunch with their children, ages infants through age 12 years. At 1:15 the children are dismissed to their age-appropriate activities while the moms will meet Scottie May, mother of the creator of the well known Veggie Tales. She is a single parent who raised 3 children, and she will tell us how "Single Moms Can Raise Awesome Kids!" Bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship! The 2nd annual ECRC Men s Retreat will take place on October 23 and 24. The group will arrive at Lake Geneva Youth Camp by 8 pm Friday and will leave to return home by 9 pm on Saturday. Cost

5 is $95 (covers housing, 3 meals on Saturday, and study materials), and participants will be going through a FamilyLife event by Dennis Rainey called Stepping Up: A Call to Courageous Manhood. 6 COMMUNITY The No Frills Fun Run is a 13.1 or 6.55 mile race held in Elmhurst from which all proceeds raised benefit one local family. The organizers are currently seeking a beneficiary for their 5th annual race which will be held on February 28, Nomination forms are available at nofrillsfunrun.org and families must meet two criteria in order to be selected as the beneficiary family: 1)The family has been faced with a serious illness or death in the immediate family that has caused financial hardship, 2) The family must reside in Elmhurst, or have children who attend a school in Elmhurst (example: a family who resides in Villa Park who has children attending Timothy Christian Schools would be eligible). An evening of fellowship, thanks, and celebration featuring a concert by Christian artist Jason Gray is taking place on October 15 at the Tinley Park Convention Center (18451 Convention Center Drive, Tinley Park). Doors will open at 6 pm, dinner begins at 7 pm. Each year, the Elim Dutch Festival raises thousands of dollars in essential funds that directly impact and bless the children and adults with disabilities served by Elim each day.
