6 That s why we bow down and worship this King Cause he gave his everything; Cause he gave his everything He came to live, live in us again He came to be our conquering King and friend He came to heal and show the lost ones his love He came to go prepare a place for us Benediction Dismissal Postlude Worship Team - Doug Bardolph, Angela Buikema, Gregg DeMey, Kyle Olson, Marcy Tameling, Glenn Vanderveld, Dan Vlcek TODAY AT ELMHURST CRC Mary, an unknown young girl from a backwater town, received a visit from an angel who had an unbelievable story. Mary asked the logical question, How will this happen? That is a common question for us, too. God encourages us to ask in wonder, How will this happen? NEXT WEEK AT ELMHURST CRC Mary responded to the angelic news by saying: I am the Lord s servant. May it be to me as you said. Wow! Certainly Mary knew her pregnancy would cause her hardship and rejection. In the midst of such bizarre and unusual circumstances, her response is one of humble servitude. This was a characteristic her son inherited, as he humbled himself in obedience, even obedience unto death on a cross. Read Luke 1:26-38 to prepare for this service. We will welcome new members and celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. ANNOUNCEMENTS Join the Church School children between the services today in the Garden Room. They will be singing their Christmas songs and presenting the Christmas story. Christmas cookies will be served. The topic for Adult Education today is A Savior is Born-Peace. Experience cinematic short films that capture events surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. Then Pete Briscoe will open up Scripture to bring us back to the roots and heart of faith in Christ. (Gathering Room)
7 Tonight The Edge will celebrate Christmas with a progressive dinner from 5-8:30 pm! Please make sure that your student has a permission slip completed. If you need one or have any questions, Andy at andrew.pasek@elmhurstcrc.org. The Glimmers of Hope trees are currently on display through December 14 and provide an opportunity to raise money to help those in need during the Christmas Season. The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols: Join us for this beautiful worship service tradition on December 14, which includes scripture readings, music from the choir, and congregational singing. A Tender Christmas: Come join us for a special time of worship on December 16 at 7 pm in the Garden Room. This service is offered during the holiday season and allows you to spend a few moments to reflect on your grief journey, to be with others who are hurting, and to be in the presence of a loving God who gives us hope and joy even in the midst of pain. Behold the Lamb of God: the True Tall Tale of the Coming of Christ is a collection of songs about Jesus. On December 19, the Broken Halos will again be performing Behold the Lamb of God, telling this true myth, as C.S. Lewis called it, this tale that is bigger than life, but is astonishingly true. Join us in proclaiming the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ. The evening begins with the traditional "in-the-round" segment at 7 PM; admission is FREE. DONATE The Steering Committee of the Single Moms Support Group (SHE) is asking families to consider donating gently used toys to this ministry. These toys will allow moms to provide Christmas gifts for their children. Your generosity in the past with clothes and other items was greatly appreciated by participants. You may leave donations on the lower level by the Living Tree, or by the front door of 236 W. Van Buren, Elmhurst. If you have any questions please contact Jane at janeloe@aol.com. Donate your new or gently used clothes! The Edge (ECRC High School Student Ministries) Is heading down to the Lawndale community to serve at My Brother s Kitchen and they are hoping to take a lot of clothes to bless that community with for Christmas. Please drop off anything you may have that has been gently used (or is new!) and no longer is needed to the Youth Room until Friday Dec 12th. Food pantry donations: Next Sunday (and the third Sunday of every month) you are welcome to bring donations of non-perishable food items, paper goods, and hygiene products in support of the food pantry at the Yorkfield Presbyterian Church. A list of requested items is available on the display counter in the church lobby. Please drop off items to the area by the information center. Thank you!
8 The Yorkfield Food Pantry (A Community Services Team Partner) has begun a fundraising campaign for a new building. It s desperately needed since in 2013 they served almost 4000 clients working out of a small basement. All gifts donated through ECRC prior to December 31 will be matched at fifty cents on the dollar by Elmhurst Presbyterian Church. To contribute, please make checks payable to EMF and write Yorkfield Food Pantry in the memo line. If you have questions or for more info, contact Deb Boomsma at or debboomsma@sbcglobal.net. SERVE Small group leaders (high school age on up) are needed for first service 1st-5th grade children's worship. If you would like to be a part of this exciting, kid-friendly worship experience once or twice a month please contact Kara at kara.hackert@elmhurstcrc.org. Children's Worship Buddies: We are looking for one on one buddies for children with special needs once a month during the services. If you would be interested and would like to know more on how you can help please contact Kara Hackert kara.hackert@elmhurstcrc.org. The nursery is in need of volunteers for the Lessons and Carols service as well as on Christmas Eve. If you are able to help, we would greatly appreciate it, even if you don't usually serve in the nursery. To volunteer contact Becky Hoffman at or becky.hoffman@elmhurstcrc.org. Thank you!
